Title says it all really, she forgot to take her bracelet off yesterday and the teacher saw it and chucked it in the bin!!She only told me on the way to school this morning and teacher wasn't there to have a word with (was in a meeting apparently)

so should I ask her today or just seethe quietly?

I would go to the headteacher
she had no right
confiscation - yes
throwing it away - no

was it a nice bracelet?
or was it made of pasta or something?

conniedescending · 08/01/2009 10:59

no it was beaded with trinkets on it - not expensive

OMG- as a teacher in training, I agree that her action was completely OTT. She should have confiscated it and returned it with a warning at the end of the day. Your poor dd!

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 08/01/2009 10:59

fair point I guess slarty
but even if it was made of pasta the child owned it and the teacher should not have thrown it away

flummery · 08/01/2009 11:00

Don't seethe quietly. Ask the teacher what happened and if she knows where the bracelet is.

Isaidno · 08/01/2009 11:00

She had no right to throw it away.

idobelieveinfairies · 08/01/2009 11:01

You must ask her for it back, she had no right whatsoever, of course she should have taken it off your daughter and returned it back to you asking you to double check she hasn't got jewellery on in future, but no way throw it in the bin.

Perhaps she retrivied it from the bin afterwards?...for her sake i hope she did!

do let us know what happens.

SlartyBartFast · 08/01/2009 11:02

it seems veyr mean.

conniedescending · 08/01/2009 11:04

no she didn't retrieve it back afterwards...she wouldn't have dared! She says she hadn't even realisde she had it on and her teacher noticed it and chucked it away without saying a word.

Feel like crying

Are you absolutely certain that DD has it right? I know that I sometimes lied to my mother to get out of trouble, in particular when I'd lost something. I was quite lovely most of the time and have turned out to be largely fine, but I was prone to fibbing rather than copping it when young.

idobelieveinfairies · 08/01/2009 11:09

No i mean perhaps the teacher did after, not your DD..none of mine would have donw that either!

idobelieveinfairies · 08/01/2009 11:09

Maybe the teacher was playing horrible mind games.

happystory · 08/01/2009 11:12

You need to be sure before you steam in. Perhaps she put it in her drawer and forgot to return it. Perhaps you should say' Very sorry dd had her bracelet on, can we have it back please?' and see what happens

conniedescending · 08/01/2009 11:12

yes - that did cross my mind flummery but she was adament thats what had happened...I didnt know she'd lost it and she announced it out of nowhere!

tbh seems like the teacher couldnt care less about their things.....dd had had gloves, hats, scarves, jumpers, plimsolls vanish into thin air

OP posts:
conniedescending · 08/01/2009 11:14

I wasn't going to go in being stroppy - just wasnt sure it would warrant a complaint iykwim!

Will have a word when I collect her, see if she has the bracelet.

I'd be furious. No one has the right to chuck other people's property away; as was said, confiscation and return at the end of the day, chucking - absolutely no.

flummery · 08/01/2009 11:18

I'm glad you weren't offended by my comment. I just thought it was worth considering.

Definitely ask. Clearly if it is what happened then it's odd behaviour, as well as being unacceptable.

happystory · 08/01/2009 11:19

On a side note, if things are labelled they should turn up in lost property (gloves, I mean, and so on) I have endured the hell that is the lost property cupboard and it ain't nice but you do find things. Teachers can't be responsible for 30 pairs of gloves, plimsolls etc. We have parents asking if they've seen their dd's hairclips 'It was pink with glitter on it'

Aitch · 08/01/2009 11:20

i wouldn't complain immediately, just ask brightly where it is as your dd says she was the last person to have it. mentally, however, i'd be punching her rotten lights out for bullying my kid.

NAB3lovelychildren · 08/01/2009 11:23

say you realised your DD wore her bracelet to school yesterday and could you please have it back.

She was fine to remove it, not fine at all to throw it in the bin.

SlartyBartFast · 08/01/2009 11:23

agree with aitch,
would not complain as such.
after all she should not have had a bracelet at school and perhaps teacher was just showing teaching her.
just ask.
as for gloves and stuff,
try lost property.

How old is your dd?

Either you or she should have taken responsibility for her not wearing it to school.

So apologise for breach of regs and then ask if you can have it back.

Then say she had no right if she says it is in bin.
