Hi, tommorrow the letters will go out to tell me wether my daughter has a place at our local primary school. We put the next nearest school as our second choice which was probubly a waisted choice as it is so over subscribed and we are just outside catchment.
If we don't get the schools of our choice, could we go on a waiting list for those schools?
My daughter is at a nursery linked to a private school, so she could stay there untill a place became availabe. She will be doing some of reception there anyway, because of her DOB if she gets in to the first choice school, she'll start in Jan 2010.

yes you can apply to the school itself to go on a "continuing interest" waiting list, well thats how it works with my local schools, which is what i am going to have to do as i currently live outside the area of the schools i want but by the time she will go to school will be living in the actual catchment area iyswim.

That would be good. The good schools always tend to be over subscribed, and I'm worried I might be left with failing schools and in particula, one that looks like a prison.

check out the school or LEA's website to see if there is an admissions policy/appeals process

I saw that last year there were loads of appeals and not one was accepted.
So I think the waiting list would be better. She does have a speech disorder and this school has it's own speech therapist so it would be the best choice for her.

If you have a special reason for the school - such as the speech issue I would definitely appeal - it's worth a go. Round here the schools have waiting lists. I know one girl accepted a place the last half of Y1 after having been on the waiting list for 1yr and 2 terms - it is a very popular school!.

Just to let you know, she has a place at the school. Our letter arrived this morning, so we can relax now.
