The ordinary comprehensive that I attended didn't do Latin and it would be a big help if someone out there knew how to translate this and was willing to help...

'one's best in all things'

btw am seriously tempted by the cambridge latin course online after this thread! I had forgotten how much fun latin is!

I thought superne was upwards?

My little English-to-Latin glossary at the back of the exercise book I used to be tormented with at college had 'operam dare' as 'to do one's best'. However, I like cory's 'in omnibus enitendem' best now.

Am also curious to know what this is for now, having spent half an hour with two dictionaries and a grammar to come up with my earlier suggestion (I said this was my weakest subject!). It's good fun, though.

worryingly, I did it parallel to A level (school didn't offer A level latin but a bunch of us did it with a teacher-rather odd but hey),

AND a little at uni

AND I got a first (though more for other dead languages than Latin)

and yet I cannot really remember very much at all
