I am getting my presentation ready, im at the stage where i want to put it together. Two things i could do with some help with really.

  1. MB, can you point me in the direction of where you got the info about the straw - i really want to include this, but imagine that they might be a bit about mumsnet as a reference
  1. Lesson plan templates anyone? Just wondered how much detail i should include, totally in the dark about this one.

I have a ten minute presentation slot, so was going to use that as my intro to class, then refer to the lesson plan to how the rest of the lesson might pan out.

I'm shitting my pants and having a crisis of confidence, so heeelllllllp

thanks moomin, that does help, although i only have to do ten minutes, i am going to keep it more Q/A type interaction. I only have to provide lesson plan for the ten minutes too.

I am about half way through, it is a bit lectury for my liking, but really, with ten minutes i will just be through introducing myself and the time will be up .

The job spec states that the applicant must be willing to do cert-ed, so hopefully they will be just looking at my teaching style and the way i come accross as apposed to getting it right?

The ironic thing is, i did my gcses and access course at the college and most of the lessons were spent copying from the board. Be interesting to see if the staff are the same

oh right, didn't read the bit about only 10 min lesson plan .

I'd have thought that anyhting with a bit of a powerpoint would go down well, esp if it's all a bit 'chalk and talk' usually at that college. How long ago did you study there? IMO education has changed HUGELY since I went to school - it's much better now for pupils. Good luck!

exasperatedmummy · 27/10/2008 09:44

lmao - AGES ago Blimey yes, i think it was about 12 years ago - might have changed since then. I will do what i do i suppose, if they like me they do, if they don't they don't.

Something good has come out of it though, i certainly feel that i definately want to teach. I want to teach at secondary level too as i forgot how much i love my subject. I got very bogged down with chemistry and details at uni, yawn - i forgot that i just love biology for the sake of it.

Its a nice feeling to get some of that back

[apologies for quick hijack]
MB Have you heard of this woman: Chemistry with cabbage?

We saw her at MOSI this week at the Science Festival and the boys thought it was fantastic.

exasperatedmummy · 05/11/2008 10:48

Martian, sorry, i have just seen this, i hope you had a lovely holiday.

Just to update, that i didn't get offered the permanent post but have been put on their supply list and that suits me quite well . More money, less commitment considering i may well want to do my PGCE next year.

I did the straw thing and it went down really well, got everyone relaxed and laughing (and made one guy feel quite poorly - lol), even though its no laughing matter, you know what i mean - so thankyou so much for that idea, i really think it helped me do a confident presentation, thankyou to everyone who has helped me out with this, it has really boosted my confidence.

I have done the cabbage thing, well sort of, we sent them home with a recipe for it. We did a presentation at a school on pH using wood ants, getting them to sting litmust paper, its really cool the kids loved it, then we used universal indicator to test things like coke, vinegar, toothpaste and washing powder. That was fun too.
