Would private schools accept twins for price of one?

I have considered private school for my 6-year-old twins but I just can't manage the fees for two.
A teacher friend suggested I ask the schools about scholarships, so I telephoned three prep schools today with that question. All mentioned bursuries and "great flexibility", but immediately offered me a meeting with the headmaster to discuss.
I have heard on the grapevine over the past few days that some local parents who have lost their jobs have been forced to withdraw their children from these schools.
Under the circumstances, would it be too cheeky to ask whether they would accept both my boys for the price of one?
Advice appreciated

It is worth asking, but my guess would probably be no though. They usually offer sibling discounts though.

MadreInglese · 25/09/2008 14:00

They'll probably be fine about it but your kids will have to share a chair and a pencil between them

AMumInScotland · 25/09/2008 14:37

I can't see why they would TBH, though you may get a sibling discount.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/09/2008 14:38

Are they identical? Send them on alternate days...

IdrisTheDragon · 25/09/2008 14:38

I don't think your chances of getting two children to go for the price of one are very high tbh

Dropdeadfred · 25/09/2008 14:39

weird...they are TWO children you know...

Swedes · 25/09/2008 14:39

Is this a new take on "buy one get one free"?

lulumama · 25/09/2008 14:41

i am a twin, and we both went to private school, got sibling discount but that;s it

twins are two seperate people, using two lots of resources etc...

sibling discount probaly the best you can hope for !!

snorkle · 25/09/2008 14:48

I know a set of twins that both go for free... but that's because they are children 4 & 5 in their family & the first 3 all pay (school policy is 4th child or more goes free while the older one's are at the school).

I doubt the schools are likely to be that generous - especially if they have existing students with parents who are struggling. Having the second one go half price might be a more realistic proposal.

PMSL at TheFallenMadonna

Why would you expect to get one for free?

Twelvelegs · 25/09/2008 14:51

We get 5% for our second ds at his school.

squeaver · 25/09/2008 14:53

I've actually heard of a couple of schools that don't take twins . Because they have small class sizes and their policy would be to separate twins which can't be done if only one class per year.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 25/09/2008 14:54

lol at sending them alternate days!!!!! And they could divvy up the exams between them...

PrimulaVeris · 25/09/2008 14:54

May be a small sibling discount, but that's it.

Mercy · 25/09/2008 14:58

lol at this thread!

OrmIrian · 25/09/2008 14:59

A twins BOGOF! What a wonderful idea

But I doubt it.

jelliebelly · 25/09/2008 15:01

Why on earth would they agree to that?

Swedes · 25/09/2008 15:15

I get a 5% sibling discount for having two in the same school.

MamaG · 25/09/2008 15:20

LOL at madreinglese and fallenmadonna

ooooh lulu I didn't know you were a twin: with ruby? I was desperate to be a twin when I was growing up like Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield. Iwanted to be Jessica but sadly, I was more of an Elizabeth

or not really, seeing as I'm not a twin

lazymumofteenagesons · 25/09/2008 16:01

I've got a friend whose son is very small for his age. Do you think they would give him a place at half price?

electra · 25/09/2008 16:06

No, it's usually 5-10% discount.

bogie · 25/09/2008 16:08

5% discount at ds's school also

Marina · 25/09/2008 16:08

PMSL lazymum, my son is teeny for year 5. Shall I ask for a discount too?
5-10% discount is the norm snowybird!
