Was she happy with O? SIL is going to have a look at it but has no experience of private schools.

scrooged · 17/02/2009 22:50

Ahh. I'm a radiography student. I know where O is, ds is at the DG. I'm working out where to send him as they don't like how I need to pay the fees. The school by the Uni has spaces, Im just working it all out. STRESS!!!
Did you not like O?

BarkingHarriet · 17/02/2009 22:56

I loved O, but dh didn't. But then again I went to NGHS from 11+ so it felt more 'normal' to me than the local state schools IYSWIM. As far as I know, ML was happy with O but she says on another thread that she's moving her dd as she's not being challenged enough (if I've paraphrased that correctly, apologies if I haven't)

BarkingHarriet · 17/02/2009 22:59

Sounds like you've got a bit of a nightmare Scrooged. How old is your ds?

Is your SIL looking at any others Heated?

scrooged · 17/02/2009 23:01

I know that. ds's school is the same. They have has a couple move there from O, they said they thought standards were slipping and they were unhappy with the school. ds has just moved from OV. We really had a bad time with the new head. It's so hard isn't it. State schools have alot to offer now and have shorter holidays, M near the Uni looks similar to what I'm paying for, just bigger classes and it's free so I can take him on hoilday and do all the things we couldn't before because of paying fees. Look into the state, some do offer alot.

scrooged · 17/02/2009 23:03

ds is 9.

Hi heated. They do everything they can when you go in and look around, the sell is fantastic, it doesn't always work out the way you hope though.

BarkingHarriet · 17/02/2009 23:06

Mine's the opposite problem Scrooged - my dd's are in state but since we had a new Head (ring any bells...[hmmm]) we've had no end of problems, and the state schools around here that I would consider sending dd's to haven't got any room, hence us looking at independent.

Although having said that, dd's have both settled a bit at the moment, so although I still have reservations about the school, we're keeping them where they are for now.

scrooged · 17/02/2009 23:14

Yes. ds started off at a state school, I am reluctant to move him back but I need to pay the fees monthly and the school said no and I can't raise it in one/two lump sums. ds started in PW, he's always been a very bright boy, they didn't know what to do with him, he was really advanced. He was small and unhappy, in trouble all the time so I had to move him. OV had a lovely head, she really knew her stuff. Then she left . I did try FM, the head gave ds a reference and he didn't get in, I made sure he didn't give one to DG and ds was offered a place. He's not being pushed though so is being silly. There's too many silly kids for one school IMO so he's learning things off them. I have to find ds a school for next week if I don't find the rest of the fees. They are very unflexible. The LEA has had alot of calls asking for places apparantly.

scrooged · 17/02/2009 23:18

Do you think the ALF will tell me to piss off?

BarkingHarriet · 17/02/2009 23:20

Crikey that's not long. Won't the let you join one of those plans where you pay them monthly and they pay the fees when they'r due? But then again, if you're not entirely happy, you're probably better looking elsewhere.

Off to bed now, will check back tomorrow.

scrooged · 17/02/2009 23:26

No, I did but I wasn't paid on time as my form was lost so it took me months to pay the fees, by which time they cancelled my contract, the school refunded them and I payed the school directly once I had been paid. I'm not allowed to use them again. They don't offer a pay monthly at school. I feel cheaky asking the ALF, I can repay it though but I think they will tell me to piss off. They have not really got to know what ds can do yet so I'm quite sad about it. It is a nightmare to get there every day though as I don't drive so a closer school is a blessing!

Night

Clary · 17/02/2009 23:59

scrooged - sorry that you are unhapy with yr choice of school and that DS is not getting on well.

I have to ask - I gather you are avenap - I think I may know yr DS. Does his name start with a J?

scrooged · 18/02/2009 00:05

Where do you know ds from?

I'm not unhappy with the school, there's a few things I don't like and I don't think they know ds yet. He is J.

Clary · 18/02/2009 00:09

I think he was in my DS1's first class - deciphering yr initials (!) it all fits.

Sorry, not trying to put words into yr mouth wrt DS's school.

scrooged · 18/02/2009 00:10

Ahh. At PW?

Clary · 18/02/2009 00:11

Yes that's right.

Clary · 18/02/2009 00:11

small world eh, even ont'internet

scrooged · 18/02/2009 00:13

I bet life was peaceful when he went!
It is a small world. I need to know who you aare now.

Clary · 18/02/2009 00:20

Oh I don't think my DS would have been memorable .

He didn't start till January anyway (summer-born, last yr of staggered intake), so was only with yr DS for 2 terms.

scrooged · 18/02/2009 00:22

Ohh, there was an A, a few girls, I think I invited the whole class to ds's party. Seemed like a good idea at the time.

There's a kid from your school who moved to ds's at the same time. I thought ds used to be bad but he's a kitten in comparison. Do you know the one I mean?

scrooged · 18/02/2009 00:32

I remember a J.

marialuisa · 18/02/2009 08:31

Harriet/Heated would still recommend O, really lovely school and would still choose it over DGHS (thought it was totally crap TBH, we have better state options) and NGHS. The issues we have are fairly DD specific and I really don't think the school could do anything about them. Interested by Scrooged's comments as I can obviously figure out who she's talking about and most of them still have DDs at O. We've had a big influx from OVS as well and there seems to be a 2-way flow between O and DGHS.

We are only moving her because work arrangements/her age mean that F (LES) has become an option, although the travel would make saner people run in horror. We visited, expecting to dismiss it and it felt right. Time will tell if we're correct, I'm very torn about moving her.

We must all be pretty close as we know lots of people at PW! Think I may need to change my name.

marialuisa · 18/02/2009 08:34

Harriet-should add DD being challenged plenty at O, and glad that your DDs are happier.

Heated · 18/02/2009 14:59

Thank you. SIL is, as far as I know, just looking at O as it's close to home but I will also direct her to this thread.
