GAWD, I feel so old. When I did O level maths we weren't even allowed calculators(recent invention)and had to work out 'cos'(cosign?), etc from a funny old reckoner book. Haven't a clue what any of it is now. My dd is in Yr 4 and I can't always understand her maths homework. Re grammar school - it's all different now. Criteria, catchments, teaching, so there's no point in comparison. Where I live now you have to practically be a genius to get into the local girls grammar type school because they take creme de la creme from a large London catchment area. Still, ignorance can sometimes be bliss!
