Broughton Hall High School admissions – moved from Liverpool to St Helens, any advice?

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone might have been in a similar situation and could give me some advice about getting my daughter into Broughton Hall Catholic High School for September 2027.

My daughter is currently in Year 6 at St Oswald's Catholic Primary School in L13. She's baptised Catholic and has attended St Oswald's throughout her primary education.

We lived in the St Oswald's parish for most of her life, but we moved last year and now live in Eccleston, St Helens (WA10)

Broughton Hall is the school we'd really like her to attend, but I'm worried that moving out of Liverpool might affect her chances of getting a place.

I understand that St Oswald's is a Catholic partner primary school, but I'm unsure how the admissions criteria work when you're Catholic, attend a partner primary school, but no longer live in one of the named parishes.

I'd really appreciate some advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Has anyone's child got into Broughton Hall while living outside Liverpool, particularly in St Helens?
Does attending St Oswald's Catholic Primary School help if you now live outside the named parishes?
Has anyone applied from WA10 or the Eccleston area?
Does moving out of the parish affect your priority, even if your child has attended the same Catholic primary school throughout their education?

I'm planning to apply using our current address, but I'm just anxious about whether the move will affect her chances.

Thank you so much for any advice! 😊

The admissions criteria say that (after children who live in parish, which yours does not), the next criterion is other Catholic children. Your child is in that group if they fulfil the criteria. After that is children who attend the listed primary schools.

So yes, your move has affected the likelihood of getting a place if you are now outside the parish boundaries, and attending the school doesn't help as this is below "other Catholic children".

This is the page you need to check directly with the school for how far down the criteria they went previously (and the furthest distance). This will tell you whether your child is still actually within a chance of getting a place or not.
