What is the best individual set of results you are aware of this year?

My friend’s daughter got 11 9s!

It wasn’t this year but one of my DCs managed to get a 9 in English Language and a 2 in Art which was the widest spread of grades the school had ever had for one pupil! 🤯

Friend of my dd got 10 x 9s and then 3x A* at Alevel. Homeschooled friend of my son's just got A in an A-level aged 16 as well as 9 and 8 in two GCSEs. Already took about 9 or 10 GCSEs over the past three years, 9s and 8s in everything.
I'm most plessed with my son and daughter both having got a 5 in maths after plenty of tutoring and an enduring inability to remember times tables.

A full suite of grade 9s.

A kid in the school I work at, it's a pretty deprived area (70% PP, 80% EAL).

A very hard working, focused young man who knows exactly where he wants to go in life and engaged with help and support from his teachers.

My friend’s son got 4A* at A level this year. He got all 9s in his GCSEs. He is brilliant and not swotty or weird. Just really clever.

Niece predicted 3s and 2 4s :(
she got 2 4s, 5 5s, 2 6s and 1 3 .

I totally get this. The downside of working as a supply teacher is you don't see the final grades.

But in a maths class I had a student say, "Oh get that. I never understood it at school". I did my happy dance for that.

Why would high achievers be "swotty" or "weird"?
That's a very negative attitude to people with ability and who work hard.

Where does he want to go?

The girls in my class with all perfect results tended to be both inveterate swots and on the weird side. Just my experience. It’s refreshing to see it’s not always the case.

DS is neither swotty nor weird, he got 11x9 and 3x A Star at A levels and is off to Oxford this October - he attended the local comprehensive school. He did work pretty hard but maintained a really good life work balance, I think the biggest thing to help him is that he worked hard consistently from day 1 of Y12

Lots of pupils at DCs schools get all
9s/ A*s at A level. Most neither super swotty or ‘weird’ ( whatever that means)..just hard working and obviously bright!

They could also be just really clever and brilliant too.

'Swotting' just means working hard - what's wrong with that? Bet your kids are the ones making life really hard for the kids trying to work hard. You should teach your kids a bit of 'swotting' is to be commended and perhaps your kids should aspire to be a bit more like that!
Jealousy is where the word 'swot' comes from.

Never thought they were good at maths, and got a grade 9.

My friends foster child got 5 at grade 5 including maths and English, got their car mechanic apprenticeship, nothing short of a miracle if you knew the background, whereas my other friends granddaughter got 11 9’s but went to an excellent selective private school so was very much expected

My friend’s son who has also struggled a bit at school, despite working very hard. Summer born, has Dyslexia. Got a reasonably decent set of GCSEs two years ago but was a bit disappointed. Moved to a new school for 6th form and worked his arse off. Has got 3As at A Level. I’m really, really chuffed for him.

That's a great achievement.

There’s a lovely story in the Irish papers about a child who dropped out of school with her mental heath and got full points after studying herself. Extraordinary really to have such dedication.

Dds friend got 10 9's. Including one in a language the school didn't even teach and he decided to just learn on duolingo. English lit paper he did not drop a single mark across the 2 papers so got full marks which I find incredible in a subject which can be quite subjective. Dd said he had been revising for GCSEs for years though so incredibly driven as well as clever.

Love all the stories of children getting good grades despite such adversity. Its so impressive and must give them such a boost to go on and build a great future for themselves.
