Nursery/pre-school in West Norwood/Streatham borders

Hi all,

We’re moving to West Norwood/Streatham borders (near Royal Circus) around July and I’m trying to get my head around childcare options locally.

My son just turned 3, so he won’t be starting Reception until September 2027. That means we need something lined up until then, and any local insight would be brilliant.

We’re trying to decide between:

  • Starting nursery from July (so he’s settled in asap after the move), or
  • Joining a preschool in September (with the usual term-time pattern)

I’d really love to hear people’s experiences of nurseries/preschools in the West Norwood / Tulse Hill / Streatham Hill area, especially:

  • ones you’d recommend (or ones to avoid!)
  • whether you chose a nursery or a preschool at age 3
  • what the hours are like locally (and whether wraparound is common)
  • how competitive places are and when to apply
  • any attached to local primary schools worth knowing about

Thanks so much!

Might be out of area but Holmewood Nursery is exceptional. They used to be oversubscribed but the falling birth rates and families being priced out of Lambeth mean they have space.

They’re term time only but offer wrap around.

I don’t know what it is like now but we adored Cherubins nursery in West Norwood when my boys were little. The staff were so kind and supportive during a difficult time.
