Year 6 residential costs

KingoftheNorth1 · 06/10/2025 14:52

Would anyone be willing to share how much their schools charged last year / are charging this year for school residential trips. Particularly keen to hear what people had to pay for Year 6 activity type weeks.

Totally get that costs have sky rocketed, plus insurance is likely very steep so, so please don't get me wrong, I'm not unrealistic, but just trying to work out if the almost £850 we have been asked to fork out is fair/representative! Haven't been through the process before so don't have any particular frame of reference.
TIA to anyone happy to divulge!

just shy of £400 for 2 nights here.

Summmeeerrrrisherenearly030933939 · 06/10/2025 15:03

Ours is about 375 for 3 nights , they did 2 nights in year 5 and that was 270ish.
They’ve not released the costings yet for this year , but I would imagine it would be about the same
£850 is very very steep!! Wouldn’t be paying that personally

HansHolbein · 06/10/2025 15:04

A couple of years ago we paid about £500. It was Monday-Friday. £850 is nuts!

Yabbadabbadooooooo · 06/10/2025 15:06

Ours is £450 for Monday to Friday.
And we have twins.
we can pay in instalments though.

LunchtimeNaps · 06/10/2025 15:07

£580 for Monday to Friday.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/10/2025 15:07

£850! That is shocking. When DD went (albeit 12 years ago!), it was £180.

sambasunsays · 06/10/2025 15:08

£850 is insane! What is the activity? Do you live in a really affluent area?

NeuroSpicyMumof3 · 06/10/2025 15:08

3 nights, £350 in east anglia. I only paid £800 for a Yr 7 week in France! Seems very steep to me.

Invisablepanic · 06/10/2025 15:08

2 nights last year was around £350. Also went on one a few weeks ago for the start of y7 and I think that was similar.

JLbaby · 06/10/2025 15:09

£700 for 4 nights here. SE London area but residential is about 2hrs away.

spanieleyes · 06/10/2025 15:12

We just do 2 nights and it’s £275, including coach travel.

Boymummy2015 · 06/10/2025 15:12

We paid around £200 for 4 nights about 4 years ago..... will have our middle one due to go either this year or next too, he's at a different school, different area so not sure what the costs will come in at for him but I wouldn't be paying £850.00.

Just paid £1480.00 for a 5 night trip to NYC for our eldest with School and whilst expensive it's alot more for your money that £850.00 for a residential.

BreakingBroken · 06/10/2025 15:15

Wouldn’t it depend on how many nights and location?

dontmalbeconme · 06/10/2025 15:16

I'm pretty sure it was about £400 each for ours in year 6, and they're at Uni now, so quite a while ago. This was for a fully catered Mon-Friday activity camp.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 06/10/2025 15:18

Yeesh! DD is off to Iceland for a week with college in March, and they've managed to keep the cost of that down to under a grand. £850 for a Year 6 residential where they're only going a couple of hours away seems absolutely nuts!

Bohemond23 · 06/10/2025 15:21

450 per child (approx 50 children five nights to the IOW) and the PTA gave £1000

TheNightingalesStarling · 06/10/2025 15:21

Where ate they going?!?!

In comparison... I've just paid £650 for 14yo to go to Spain for 4 days.

camperjam · 06/10/2025 15:29

Bloody hell! I wouldn't be able to afford that

KingoftheNorth1 · 06/10/2025 15:32

Thank you all, much appreciated. For context, this is for a four night trip to Norfolk, for 40 children. We're in Kent.
I thought it was steep but don't want to come across as naïve or ungrateful when I push back.
Sad fact is we simply don't have £850 to spend either, so some hard conversations to have with both school and dc. Such as shame as I always thought the year 6 residential was a "right of passage" so to speak.

£280 i think, Wednesday to Friday. Anyone on FSM paid £160 i think.

BlossomLeaves · 06/10/2025 15:40

£325 for this year for year six, 2 nights in Norfolk which is fairly local.
This is a big jump up from last year, but the school have been very transparent about costings and the big change is primarily from the residential centre increases (which they have also been very transparent about sharing details of).

I doubt you will be the only one.

Its also why while I thought itvwas shame DDs school only did a Residential trip in Yr6, and then only two nights... I thought itveas a lit better and more inclusive than some of the other local schools with trips every year Yr4-Yr6, getting progressively more expensive and longer. A lot of the parents were struggling but didn't want to let the children down.

jeremyclarksonsthirdnipple · 06/10/2025 15:44

Thats a shocking price OP. I bet lots of parents feel the same as you.

UncertainPerson · 06/10/2025 15:44

£350 for two nights in East Anglia which I thought was extortionate! I’d simply not be able to afford £850.

Bobbysmumma · 06/10/2025 15:45

No way would I be paying £850! £375 Monday to Friday in Devon
