What’s going on with Fulham Prep? Five heads in three years—should parents be worried?

I’ve been following Fulham Prep or is it Fulham School for a while, been on a few tours, heard a lot, seen some mixed reviews. Lately I’ve become more concerned and wanted to check if anyone else feels the same.

Here’s what I’ve gathered so far, plus my worries. Would love your thoughts (or corrections) if you know things I don’t.

What I like

  • On tours, the Pre-Prep school feels warm, nurturing, with real effort put into early years and the transition into Prep.
  • Some of the recent leadership (especially the previous head of Pre-Prep when I visited) seemed passionate, invested in the children, and someone you felt really wanted the best for the school.
  • The holistic “pre-preparatory” / nursery-through-early years offering seems appealing, good facilities, amazing class sizes etc.

What concerns me

  • Leadership turnover: I believe there have been multiple heads of Pre-Prep School in a short space. Someone told me the current or recent past head “disappeared” (without much explanation) and that counts as another change. Five heads in three years feels very unstable.
  • Lack of transparency: If someone so invested disappears, I’d expect some communication from the school. I haven’t seen anything that explains why leadership changed so often, or what the plan is to keep continuity.
  • Impact on consistency: With frequent head changes, there’s risk that policies, teaching style, pastoral care change often. That can be hard on young children, and on parents trying to judge what they’re getting.

What I don’t know (but would like to know)

  • Who exactly are all the Heads of Pre-Prep over the past few years, and how long each stayed?
  • What were the reasons for their departures (resigned, moved roles, performance, etc.)?
  • What measures are in place now to ensure stability going forward?
  • How this turmoil has affected children, academically, socially, emotionally and whether parents have raised concerns formally or informally.

My take

In short: yes, I’m concerned. Frequent leadership changes in a school matter, especially in early years/pre-prep. It’s not just about having a “nice” head but about continuity in values, teaching, pastoral care, the culture and relationships. If leadership isn’t stable, it’s harder for that to settle in.

That said, it might not mean the school is failing, it may be doing a lot right behind the scenes, and maybe the new head (once in place) will bring more consistency. But the lack of clear communication is a problem.

If I were you and looking at Fulham Pre-Prep, I’d press for answers: ask about head-tenure history, what changes parents might expect, how they support transitions, and how the school ensures quality isn’t disrupted.

If anyone here has more up-to-date inside info (current parent, ex-staff), I’d love to hear your experiences. And if anyone has heard different (i.e. more stable) accounts, that would be really helpful too.
