Hi everyone:
We moved to UK for 2 years now, my DS is in year 6 , really struggling with academic in school, would like to change to private secondary school.
He is mild ASD, the SENCO said he is not eligible for EHCP.
The support in school is very limited, I think he needs to be in a smaller size class? Speech therapist support is needed I think.

My DS is energetic who loves chess and sports, just a bit slow in processing.
If he goes to the normal state school, i'm afraid he will classified "dumb" kids.
and of course will be bully issues.

I would like to know if there are any non-selective independent schools which the teachers are nurturing and with good support for SEN kids?

the best is within 30 mins drive?

Really appreciated if anyone can help.
Thanks

Hi Deepwhite,

Have him assessed by a speech and language therapist who will be able to uncover all of his difficulties and put a plan of therapy in place to address those issues. Then use the report and any others you have to apply for an EHCP - you can do this yourself (I did) although Surrey are pushing back on EHCP assessments inorder to (I think) save money. But still worth applying for one (and I know people whose children have 'only" ASD and who have EHCPs so don't listen to the Senco. In terms of independent schools with good SEN have a look at More House in Farnham (independent specialist) and also Box Hill which is independent mainstream but with good SEN support.

Best wishes

There is also a new asd school opening at Leith Hill

You could look at Frensham Heights, which is just outside Farnham, but that might be too far, depending on which side of Guildford you are.
