Education taxers in family/close friends

Do any parents with DC at private school have education taxers in their family (or close friends)?

What’s an education taxer?

MrsKwazi · 12/01/2025 17:46

I presume you mean people that support VAT on school fees

No.

We are immigrants so no family around.

Our friends are pretty much all fellow school parents since we moved our kids from state. Only two of them openly supported labour pre and post election but has been very quiet since winter fuel allowance was scrapped.

BananaNirvana · 12/01/2025 18:01

Education taxers 🙄. FFS.

yorktown · 12/01/2025 18:04

I'm an education taxer, I think.
I have some friends at private schools - so they might fit your requirements.

Neveragain35 · 12/01/2025 18:10

I don’t think you can call anyone an “education taxer”. I don’t believe in a tax on education, only private schools. Can you at least be accurate? “Private school taxers” if you really feel the need for it.

VodkaCola · 12/01/2025 18:11

Oh get over yourself. You're just trying to start an argument.

BarbaraHoward · 12/01/2025 18:17

Education taxers? 🙄 That's not a thing. It's not an important enough belief to get a label like that.

It's normal to have family and friends whose political preferences don't agree with your own, just avoid the subject and if they bring it up say you don't want to discuss it.

Education taxer is the common term for those who support Labour’s policy on taxing education services on children between the ages of 4 and 19, I presume the private is silent as the state doesn’t tax itself? This doesn’t appear to apply to you, as the policy is concerned with taxing the end users of education services (well their parents) rather than private schools.

It is not a "common term".

I swear every private school simp going on about this topic 24/7 is black ops from Labour high command, because they couldn't do a better job of making people want to tax private schools if they tried.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 12/01/2025 20:31

I must be an "education taxer" then - new one on me. My sister is also an "education taxer" and has DC at private school. My DD has now left private school but I'd have still voted Labour even if she had years left to go. I have close friends with DC at private school who also agree with and voted Labour.

My Dc are at Private school and even I am sick of people on here complaining about it.
Its happening, deal with it.
Its shit and is unlikley to actually help State schools but you never know.
Pay it or find a non fee paying school for your child, I am aware its easier said than done in many cases but if you have to then crack on.

MavisPennies · 12/01/2025 20:38

I have a daughter in private school and support the policy of adding VAT to private school fees. It's a luxury.

MumChp · 12/01/2025 20:42

Tell me you're entitled without using the word...

So what's the problem? Someone close to you believes there should be tax on private school fees? Why is that an issue?

Nevertoocoldforicecream · 12/01/2025 20:47

I'm a luxury education taxer. I'd still vote Labour now, I think they are doing far better than the last rotten lot.

Education taxers

LadyConfused2024 · 12/01/2025 20:56

I have kids in private school and support the VAT on the fees.

FloralGums · 12/01/2025 21:04

I work in education (I’m a TA) and I pay taxes. Is that an education taxer?

I do support the removal of the VAT exemption on private school fees.

EarlyRiserLate · 12/01/2025 21:06

Yes!! I do

Completely fits the stereotype (i.e. brexiter, low income earner) so it wasn’t entirely unexpected. As another poster pointed out, just don’t discuss the subject. It’s a short term thing with the legal action and/or Labour being voted out, so not worth losing family/friends over in the long term even if they are a bit ignorant.

sexnotgenders · 12/01/2025 21:08

Another proud 'education taxer' here. Are you doing t-shirts, OP? I'll have one in a medium, cheers!

I really disagree with that stereotype. I wouldn't dream of voting for Brexit and we are not a low income household. We could choose private education if we wished. We just believe that luxuries don't deserve to be exempt from tax. I know many in a similar position to us who also agree.

Come on, you’ve got to admit you can imagine a Brexit voter insisting that ‘education is a luxury’ and ‘the great British state can give you all the education you ever need’. That’s before you even take into account education taxes being illegal for EU member states so Brexit is what made this policy possible.

No I absolutely can't imagine that.

Nevertoocoldforicecream · 12/01/2025 21:58

Also, no one is saying education is a luxury. Many are suggesting that private education is a luxury, which is very different.

So only non state controlled education is a luxury? Hmmmm, nothing ominous about that view 🥴. Well at least you got one Brexit dividend.
