Best independent school for ASD child

My son is 6 years old. Currently in a prep school but isn’t understood as a neurodiverse student. He has low support needs (although would be lower in a setting where he is more regulated) and is a social child.

We are currently exploring all options for other settings. We are in a position where we can relocate anywhere in the UK for the right school, so location isn’t an issue.

Could anyone recommend a specialist provision that caters to high functioning/low needs autistic children? Preferably a through school, as the thought of moving him again would be too much.

Thanks in advance .

A number of nonselective more rural independents would probably fit the bill. We are at a Quaker school, and the ethos is very inclusive and send friendly. Our dd is autistic and sounds similar to yours - in the right setting requires minimal additional support, but a bit of understanding in the classroom and a bit of flexibility to adapt to individual needs makes a massive difference.

What exactly is he struggling with at the moment?

Most of the schools my children have been to have had quite a few high functioning ASD children.

@theeyeofdoe Dysregulation. Plenty of schools have autistic children but I wonder how the autistic children you mention were actually coping. Many high functioning autistic children are also very good at masking.
