Choosing a Pre-Prep School in Canterbury: The King's School vs St Edmund's vs Kent College (2024 Entry)

We're having difficulty deciding on the school (Reception) for our daughter. We've visited all the options, and while King's School is excellent, it's currently a bit of a stretch financially.

Kent College stood out to us for its diverse range of learning methods and student body. On the other hand, St Edmund's offers a stunning environment with a strong emphasis on the arts (Cost-wise they are similar).

We'd really appreciate hearing from anyone with experience at either school. Insights on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and the overall school atmosphere would be invaluable.

Thank you!

Hi,

We have kids at Junior Kings and really like the school. Our children are really happy there and have settled well. The parents of our children's cohort have been great too and there's a really good community vibe. I can say that in reception it is very nurturing with excellent teaching that is fun. I appreciate that the fees go up quite a bit and it's more expensive than St Eds and Kent College. We made the choice based on the fact we wanted a through school and at senior school we want our children there. If something happened that made that unaffordable then children do leave Kings for the grammars (not many) and although not prepped for the 11+ the standard of teaching means this isn't a stretch. I can't comment on Kent College or St Eds from personal experience. We made the right choice for our children and we don't regret it. Good luck, I'm sure you'll pick the right school for your DD.
