Nursery, PreSchool, Infant School, i'm so confused

Can someone tell me the ages that children go to Pre-School and Infant School.

DS is almost 2 and i've had a letter to enrol him into my local pre-school in September, but its only for one or 2 morning sessions as they can only take 8 kids.

He is in full time nursery at the moment, and i'm hugely worried if i dont get him into the preschool then i'll struggle to get him into the small local village school. But on the other hand i dont know if its worth it (money wise and the hassle of racing back and forth during my lunch to get him from A to B)

Help!

In terms of getting a place in a primary school, whether or not your child went to a pre-school makes no difference, as far as I know.

In your position, I don't think you or your DS would gain anything out of him going to pre-school yet. If he is nearly two, he will start going to full time school in the year 2010-2011.

Pre-school used to be called playgroup. It is for children aged 2 and a half onwards and provides part time care, the government will fund 5 half day sessions per week after a child's 3rd birthday or you can choose to use those vouchers against the fees for your full time nursery.

Pre-school is more suitable for children whose parents don't work or who go to a childminder. They run on a voluntary basis by a committee though they do have to employ so many qualified play workers.

It has no impact on school nursery/infant school places.

Thank you both, so i guess i'm just as well to keep him at full time nursery until proper school starts. My nursery has a pre-school section, so i suppose he can stay there?

a lot of children stay at the day care nursery for pre school - yes. If he's there full time , it will be easier for you anyway!
