Is the teaching of transgender ideology really that common in primary schools?

I've applied to commence a PGCE in primary education in September, (Northamptonshire). Last night I came across this video on youtube and to say I'm shocked is an understatement. d
I'd like to ask the teachers and parents on this site - is this video of a teacher/parent meeting just an anomaly? Surely as a primary school teacher I wouldn't be expected to teach transgender beliefs to children? Throughout the video, the teacher says she is simply following statutory guidance but faith schools wouldn't teach this, surely? I would like to know if this really is common place, or is simply a one-off and I shouldn't let this video concern me. Thanks.

I don’t know for sure, but I think education and healthcare have completely fallen to the trans lobby in the U.K.

their lobbying has been very successful

If you are going to be a teacher, why don’t you familiarize yourself with the PHSE curriculum? That would be far more sensible then watching a random video! Of course there might be friction occasionally but you really must start by looking at this curriculum and maybe visit some schools to talk about the implementation of it. Most schools explain this on their web sites too. So base your thoughts on better quality info. As a teacher I think this is vital.

TizerorFizz · 22/11/2023 10:21

Most schools have no trans debate at all! Certainly most primaries. At the fringes in secondary. Nothing is “taken over”. A strong head would ensure a school sticks to the curriculum.

Been a teacher for 22 years. East London state school. Never once come up.

Brilliant - thank you so much. As awful as it might sound to others, that is a huge relief to me.

My dd has just finished primary school- she was never taught anything about trans ideology in school. This is despite the fact that for the last 2 years there has been a transgender teaching assistant in her class!
The topic has never been discussed. Everyone uses her preferred pronouns. The kids don't have any awareness that she is trans even though its obvious to the parents.

I have familiaried myself with the PHSE curriculum thanks and I still have time to watch videos - fancy that! I am here to ask about people's experiences - that's what chat forums were designed for.
What is written on a website doesn't always reflect how a policy is implemented in every day life in school - as the video clearly demonstrates.

Yeah usually in year 5 or 6 pshe. Can be more in depth depending on the teacher and whether they decide to go a a massive pro trans rant type thing.
I believe since the new pshe law thingy that came in a couple of years ago even faith schools are expected to teach it

That's interesting thanks. So it was a transwoman working as a TA?

I worked as a teaching assistant for a bit in 2021/2022 and we had a very "woke" (for want of a better word) head teacher who would make almost every whole school assembly into something about LGBT/BLM that kind of thing.

Im Not saying all schools are like that though it very much depends on the teachers that work there, but I do think by law LGBT has to be touched on in year 6 pshe now

Yes, in the curriculum I can see Yr 6 are meant to touch on it vaguely, but I just want to be sure it's not earlier than that. From the video I thought it sounded like there was a LGBTQ+ theme throughout the particular school in question - rainbows everywhere and mixed-sexed toilets. The schools I have volunteered in aren't like that, but I guess I'm here for reassurance this isn't the case in most schools.

Hmm there could well be a theme going on like that in the school it only really takes a handful of teachers working at the school with a particular agenda to do something like that.
At the same time though if it's a faith school the rainbows could represent god's promise to Noah or it could just be because the younger kids love rainbows.

A sensible teacher won't try and teacher younger kids concepts that aren't suitable for their age but sadly not all teachers are sensible.

Sorry I've just realised you were talking about a video which you posted in your op which my phone won't let me play.

No worries, I'm starting to think the school featured in the video was an anomaly. I'm sure most schools are sensible. Thanks for replying to me.

My Y2 came home saying something about girls can be boys and boys can be girls. I asked where that had come from and she said her teacher.
I explained a bit in a way appropriate to her and it hasn't been mentioned since.
I can't be more specific as I've honestly forgotten about it!

Safe Schools Alliance are campaigning in the safeguarding implications of this:

https://safeschoolsallianceuk.net/

Thanks for sending these over. I'll take a look at the advice they offer on their websites. The article in the Mirror is shocking. Inclusion for everyone but Christians it seems. No diversity of thought is allowed. I'm worried now about starting a PGCE in September. I don't believe children should be taught about transgender ideas, I believe it's confusing and harmful for early years children. I wouldn't want to do all the training only to find I can't do the job because of the materials I am expected to teach.

No it isn’t. And you are perfectly aware of this. Stop creating a moral panic.

The child is 11. She isn't teaching anyone.

No I think she means the TA.

So it's ok for a man to gaslight children into calling him 'miss' or 'her'. This erodes children's natural instinctive boundaries!!!
