In the info it said there’s no parking around the school so I’m
not sure where I should be aiming for that’s easy walking distance? We are a half hour drive away so will have to hit the road early. It would be good to know where I’m going exactly.

thank you 💐

If you mean Kings Wimbledon there is parking near the school but it will be total chaos. Will be a sea of 4x4s... It's a very residential area so you would probably be able to find on street parking not too far away
You could park in Sainsburys in the centre or the main shopping centre. Would be about a 20 minute walk to the school.
I'd think about whether the journey is worth it...

MoggyP · 06/10/2023 09:55

Which Kings????

CurlewKate · 06/10/2023 09:56

Kings Canterbury?

RudsyFarmer · 06/10/2023 09:59

That would have helped wouldn’t it!!!!!!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🥴

Kings Peterborough. I’ll add the address incase someone local has advice.

The King's (The Cathedral) School
Park Road

Ignore all my Wimbledon info!

TibetanTerrah · 06/10/2023 10:27

I'm glad you clarified because I live opposite one of the Kings mentioned and was going to offer you a visitors permit... But it's the wrong one Grin

MoggyP · 06/10/2023 10:34

I've only parked round there recently on Sundays, when you can park on street (up by Central Park, so v close) but I suspect if they're saying "no parking" it means there's residents parking in place on weekdays.

It's horrible driving round there BTW, as the one way system (designed to stop rat running) is very efficient but also baffling if you're trying to reach a destination within those streets!

So follow their advice and don't even attempt to drive up to the school. I would say use Waitrose (near the station) but I think you'll exceed their free period, so just use Queensgate shopping centre (also near the station) and walk up. It's not far.

Sorry. I wasted your time 💐

Looks like Waitrose will work fine. Opens at 7am. Just have to park and take him there where we might wait half an hour to drop him and then back to the car. I can then move it somewhere else to wait for him to finish.

Thank you for the suggestion 🙏🏻

Remember that for Waitrose to be free, you need to go in and buy something.

Treat for afterwards, perhaps?

You can report your op and ask MNHQ to amend your title.Smile

Also Waitrose is a 17 min walk which isn’t the best plan when time is of the essence. I might move the car there after drop off and go and get a drink.

Im now thinking Brook Street car park which is a 9 min walk. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Brook+Street+Car+Park,+23+Brook+St,+Peterborough+PE1+1TU/@52.5762091,-0.238152,17z/data=!4m9!1m2!2m1!1sparking!3m5!1s0x4877f0f8cc12684b:0x18f66428bbccd6!8m2!3d52.5766018!4d-0.2378445!16s%2Fg%2F11d_7952vb?hl=en-gb&source=lnms

I just want to get there non flustered and gently walk to the place. Not arrive in a panicked rush with sweat on my face dragging some poor child behind me 🥴

Before you continue to Google Maps

I think you should plan to arrive early enough that a 17 minute walk doesn't cause you any issues. If the school are warning there was a no parking that means it WILL be busy, your first choice of parking won't work out and it just seems ridiculous to cut the timing deliberately fine.

Should read "your first choice of parking may not work out" sorry

thesugarbumfairy · 06/10/2023 11:53

I would avoid trying to park near the school as mentioned. Unless you know the area and are only going to be there a short time, its very confusing and always chocka.
I always park on Broadway (parallel to Park Road which is the road the school is on) if I have to be there, but that's just for pick ups and I think its time restricted. I'm not sure its worth the risk as the residents will all be parked up if its early morning time.

Just a question - if he does get into Kings - how will he be getting there? If its by train, then its probably a good idea to park at Waitrose because you will then know exactly what the walk to school is like.

thesugarbumfairy · 06/10/2023 11:55

(also just being nosey OP - where do you live? We are in Godmanchester. My youngest gets the train from Huntingdon. My eldest has left now as he didn't stay for 6th form. I have a friend whose youngest two are also doing the entrance exam tomorrow (twins) )

RudsyFarmer · 07/10/2023 12:38

We’re back. It was fine. They found it easy which no doubt means mainly wrong answers lol. Find out next week I think by post.
