Step daughter's surname on exam results is different from legal name

My DH has a daughter and son from a previous relationship. His daughter had her exam results over the Summer and proudly sent a photo of the results. At the top of the exam results was her name with the family surname of his ex partner.

My DH is quite chilled and understands their desire for her to have the same name as their family, but he also feels he would like to identify with his daughter. The main concern is that will having a different surname to what’s on her passport impact when she applies for university / jobs etc?

Clearly a conversation with the ex partner will be an appropriate way forward at some point, but has anyone been in a similar situation and did it cause any issues or do you have any adivce?

You don't necessarily need a deed poll, but you do need to show that you are the person who took the GCSEs.

You can get your name changed for all your GCSE results if it was incorrect at the time you sat the exam. You will need to provide your birth certificate and will likely have to pay for the changes per exam board. You have to contact all the exam boards who will issue a statement of results with your birth name on them. Those grades are still yours regardless of the wrong name being on them! You did not need to re take any GCSE's and you have been advised incorrectly.

DD's school made it very clear that the legal name is the one that has to go on the exam certificates and that it needs to be correct. (Legal name stated as per birth or adoption certificate).

DD is changing her surname by Deed Poll on her 16th birthday, so the school will have to amend her name on all exam entries so that the certificates can be in her new name, as they have to enter her name before her birthday.

@RjLong Regardless of if you sat any with AQA, it's the same for all the exam boards you did qualifications with in the UK. With OCR it's is even free. The info is easily accessible on their websites. You don't need a school to prove who you are or if you used the incorrect name of the documents, your birth certificate does that.

@RjLong I'm sorry but I am not wrong. Your GCSE certificates have your DOB on them which should match with your birth certificate.
