My 12 year old Granddaughter started secondary school last September just after starting she and her Mum lost their home and had to re home their dog this caused great sadness. My Granddaughter has missed so much of the first year she ghastly had Counselling and the school is being very supportive and she igoes to school most days but not full days. Does anyone have any advice please?

Understand this is your GD showing she can't cope.
I presume she has been taught calming techniques such as the 54321 method.
Is it the start of the day she misses, or does she go in fine and then panic later?
Does she have place in school she can go to when needed.
Can she take in something of Mums to hold in her pocket when anxious.

Thank you for your reply. GD has learned the 54321 method and has been taught calming methods during Counselling sessions. Her school is very supportive and she has managed to work up to going for four hours per day but doesn’t always manage to go. She has a place to go in school if she needs to. I will let her Mum know about taking something in of hers that may calm her when she holds it in her pocket. She is very bright and is still doing well even though she’s missed so much at school.

DD also finds tapping helps (though she doesn't do it the way her counsellor says she should.)

I’ll look into that thank you
