Hi all,

Going through a divorce, have ds aged 6 (yr 1) at pre prep in SW London. Was on course for St Paul’s Westminster etc at year 3. StBexH now refuses to contribute to school fees post pre-prep. I am assessing life plans and looking to move to Bucks /Kent for the grammars there. My question is which areas of these 2 counties should I live in to maximise catchment for as many grammar schools as possible? It looks as Tunbridge wells falls into catchment for both judd/skinners but not sure about the rest and also clueless re Bucks/Slough in this regard. Thank you !!

Have you considered either North / East Leicestershire? There are many Outstanding and Good State Primaries and Secondaries as well as Independants that are extremely generous with burseries for state pupils who get through their entrance exams.

Sutton grammars are way more difficult to get into than Bucks ones. Bucks catchments work for DC in Bucks. To get to a grammar in Bucks you exceed a pass mark. It’s not DC coming in from 30 miles away. The OP needs to look at stations and commuting times.

You could also look at St Olaves in Orpington ( London Borough of Bromley), especially if your son reads music and has a good voice - they provide choristers for the King’s Chapel at the Savoy.

@Wenfy i suspect SBExH would have a fit if I moved so far out of London and challenge this in court. Also ds woulf not see his dad so often, so not a possibility unfortunately.

My post has been sent to Mumsnet jail for unknown reasons.

In South East Kent if you chose the right area you could come under 4 sets of grammar schools catchment.

These you need to pass Kent test, this countywide, and the same score.

Ashford - Boys and Girls Grammar school and 35 min high-speed train to London
Canterbury has both a Co Ed and Girls and Boys grammars - 1hr high-speed train to London

Dover and Folkestone also both have Grammar schools and 1hr High speed to London, they also have another bite by each having a local test, taken at the school on Sat after the Kent test, and entrance is based on this and being in the catchment area, and you don't have to pass the Kent test.

It’s 1 - 1.5 hour on the train. Leicester / Loughborough / Nottingham / Market Harborough to London is just as an easy journey as from Surrey / Kent
