Moving to Oxfordshire - suggestions on independent secondary schools needed

Hi - any advice on independent secondary schools in Oxfordshire would be great. Girls or co-ed only. Would consider boarding but think my daughter would prefer a day school.

looking for lots of co-curricular but supportive learning support department is the absolute priority.

Very grateful for any advice!

Yes we definitely did, that’s why when DD was offered a place at Cherwell we went there instead of SHSK, in my opinion, the only supportive and friendly private schools are Wychwood and Rye St Antony. My daughter suffered with awful anxiety because of the pressure she was put through so we decided that SHSK would be the worst place to put her!

I saw another thread on here with lots of unhappy parents about whychwood going co-Ed which makes me nervous!

In my opinion Co-Ed is a good thing, much less toxicity between girls and a broader range of people.

Yes I agreed about the co-Ed schools I was just surprised by some of the comments!!

@flowergirly13

May I ask if you had the impression that SHSK has similar academic pressure than OHS? I am considering SHSK for 13+ but I worry that it is a pressurised environment where if you are not at the top of the cohort, you will be looked down by other girls.

We have friends with daughters at SHSK and they have been brilliant with them - one of the girls is autistic with ADHD and anxiety and the school have been incredibly supportive and she is doing really well - as well as she can academically (but is not being made to feel bad for her grades and doing loads of music and drama which is really helping her confidence.

Does anyone have any recent experience of Rye St Antony they can share?

Both my DD’s went to Wychwood. They enjoyed their time there and both did well. DD1 especially thrived in the smaller setting.
I’ve got a huge bag of uniform going if you decide to send your DD there. 😁

The head has just left - again. Think Sept. will be 4th in 2 and a bit years?

Firehose21 · 19/06/2023 09:57

Is that normal for a head to leave with such short notice?

Very rare for a public school - one was only there weeks.

Does anyone have any recent experience of D’overbroecks?
