Seeking Advice on Comparing Schools in London Beyond OFSTED Ratings

Hi fellow London parents,

I'm new to the community and would like to gather some insights on education across London. I know Ofsted ratings are important, but I'm curious about other factors that parents consider when choosing a school for their children. What differences do you look for between schools that might not be reflected in their Ofsted rating? Any personal experiences or recommendations are highly appreciated!

We went to visit schools and went very much on how we felt during the visit. After walking into one school - which is ofsted outstanding - within about 5 minutes I knew I didn't like it. Whereas the school DD ended up at, I had the exact opposite feeling.

I'm talking about primary schools and most primaries are good around us.

We also knew other people with kids at the school so were able to get first hand accounts from people we trusted.

Thanks @kirinm for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to know that you relied on your instincts during school visits and didn't just focus on OFSTED ratings. The atmosphere of a school is definitely an important factor to consider.

I appreciate your suggestion to chat with other parents who have kids at the schools we're interested in. Hearing their honest opinions will give us a better idea of what each school is really like. I'll keep your advice in mind as we continue our search.

Even before I visit the school I visit the local area and will walk around and see who lives nearby.

Go to view the schools , you know your child , talk to the children if you can when walking about .. I knew the moment I walked into the right schools for my two .. you just know ..
