Hi,

Can someone please advise, if one has to be in catchment for the RLS at the school application deadline i.e. 31st October or at the time of applying for the Bucks secondary transfer test i.e. May-June ?
We currently rent in MK, and are looking at a possibility to make a move to Buckingham closer to the secondary transfer test result date, preferably after the results are out but before the school application deadline i.e. 31st october

@ashishpanwar23
Why does it matter? Your Dc takes the tests. You get the result. You can tutor or do what you want to improve the results. Worrying about how they are worked out is pointless. You get 121 or you don’t. Appeal if quite close.

@TizerorFizz No! I agree completely. DS has been coaching since sometime now, but the discussions around score calculation keeps driving me nuts. Thanks!

@ashishpanwar23 this post by @TizerorFizz has nailed it. You don't need to spend hours trying to working out how the standardised score is worked out, it's totally pointless because there isn't a set formula – it changes each year and is adjusted to fill the number of places available. The 11+ Forum is a useful source of information and advice, but on this matter it will only tell you exactly what Tizer has already told you.

just because you pass does not guarantee you a place
I believe scoring 121 guarantees you A place at a Bucks grammar school, but not at any specific grammar school iyswim.

@thing47 Thanks! Yes, it makes sense! As we have recently moved quite close to RLS, at least the catchment bit is hopefully sorted, fingers crossed!

@thing47 Scoring 121 and living in catchment is a better bet! Everyone should look at distance of furthest offer.

Yes, quite so, and that information isn't all that difficult to find.

I was merely addressing a post which, while generally accurate, didn't quite cover all the nuances.
