DS is studying sociology and politics at A Level, and starting to consider his next steps. He wants to study Political Science at Uni but is unsure about RL applications of a degree and what kind of job he could end up doing. Anyone here with a PS degree and advice for him please? Thank you

Tonnes of options.

I did politics many years ago, but the field I’m in means I see what younger grads are up to.

Most of my cohort did the same random stuff that anyone with a decent humanities degree can do - law conversion, management consulting, marketing, whatever.

If he wants to stay in a relevant field, options include-
Civil service

Working for an MP or party (but political work experience or campaigning is more important than a degree here)

Lobbying (again, political experience is really important)

Working for a think tank

Working for an organisation that does policy analysis, eg a campaign group or trade association.

I did politics many moons ago. Great degree. My fellow students went into civil service, banking, police, city, TV, party politics, law. Lots of options as for any good quality degree. Highly recommend it.

My DS is currently studying Social and political science at York.

He is really enjoying it. A lot of the modules appear to be really current with a vast range of subject matter to choose from.
