If GCSE and A level results are improving year on year, why are we sliding down the international literacy and numeracy tables?

  1. The others are improving more quickly
  2. More countries have been added this year, and they entered the league above us. Is it time for a new manager?

Besides, before we know what this means, we need to know how great the difference is between say a first place and a 20th. They may both be excellent- they'd still have to put somebody first. Or they may all be crap. But until we know, a league table is just a meaningless piece of statistics.

how do they measure the tables anyway? As we all do different tests it can't be easy to compare accuratey.
