I'm trying to write a letter to the school governors of primary school about the horror of the birthday table

(your child can invite 11 friends and you pay for them to sit on decorated table and eat school dinner while remaining few kids left out sit and watch)

I was told that there is something called Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning initiative and this would go against it. I want to put it in my letter - or ask how it fits in - i've looked on internet but don't understand how this is actually put into practice and how best to slip it into my letter.

Any help or advice would be wonderful.

I worked in a school last year which had a SEAL project up and running.

The two teachers who ran it identified children whose anger, frustration and poor behaviour got in the way of their learning. They met on a one-to-one basis in private to help the children understand what frustration feels like and what causes it. The project obviously fits that particular school and other schools may want to address different issues.

You could write somehting like, 'new initiatives such as SEAL aim to develop empathy and self-confidence so that hildren can build strong, posisitve realtionships with children and adults. A system like the BT, where children are very visibly excluded and where they have no control over whether they are able to take part or not, seems to contradict aims of bulding self-esteem and empathy and also ignores any feelings of unhappiness or frustration that may be caused.'

I ramble but something like that.
