Harvest Festival - what should a 4 year old take

My DS, nearly 4, has to take something to a harvest festival service at nursery. He has to be able to carry it from nursery to the service in the local church.

Anyone got any suggestions of what he should take and what to put in it. Am I supposed to become all blue peterish and create some amazing creation? I think it is for local elderly people so was thinking of some teatime treats.

Thanks

I think they like something non-perishable - tins and whatnot, though those seem a bit dull and not like lovely plaited loaves or bread like wheatsheafs ! Biscuits might be good

Can of soup?

For our kids, where they only have to walk down the aisle of the church, we make up shoeboxes with a few things in - eg 2 or 3 cans. I tend to just wrap a shoebox in tinfoil.

Having distributed harvest gifts in the past, I was very appreciative of boxes and baskets. For example, if you have the kind of basket that came with a flower arrangement, it will be well appreciated at harvest-time.

I think a lot depends what the church plans to do with the food afterwards. Our church sells the food to the congretation afterwards.

I gave my son some chocolate rolls in the past. The organisers can then sell them to the congretation for 10p each making money for the Bishops appeal. This year the Bishop's appeal raised money for help the aged.

things that are not heavy. mine ahd a malt loaf ,digestives, cram crackers and teacakes but on reflection the malt loaf was a bot silly as it had a sell b date 3 weeks away and the food was going to a night shelter so a packet of tea or whatever might have been better. get a 6 bvottle wine box from wherever and cut down to right height cover in bright paper.
