Does anyone know if there are diffrent types of recorders?

dd1 is starting the recorder as her very first instrument at school. We have to buy one but I've no idea whether there are different types about? Is there a beginner's one?

It's odd, but nearly 30 years later I found my old recorders and could still do bits of the James Galway flute thing they used to play on Radio 4 in the mornings, on my diddy one (thanks Purple). Your brain just gets wired up for it after a while. Even with a different fingering, once you start your fingers just know what to do, and I never had a problem switching between them.
