Got intro meeting with dd's reception teacher tomorrow..

meeting with her and the head..guess about curriculum etc, is there anything i should be asking them??
shes only gone 4 and going into reception 6 months earlier than normal for this school.

I think the meeting will probably focus on your DD and her needs rather than the curriculum. They will probably ask you whether she can confidently ask for want she needs, whether she has allergies, whether she is shy or finds it easy making friends, they will give you guidance about PE kit, lunches etc - basic stuff she will need when she starts.

My DS has just finished reception year - where did that go?

ah right, there will be other parents there too tho?, so dont know if it will be that in depth?, maybe we will be asked to fill out forms on this kind of stuff( i do this as im a childminder)..they will prob cover then the p.e, lunches kinda thing i guess?

If it is all the parents together they will talk about the foundation stage curriculum and how they learn and how they teach them to write etc. If it's a one to one with the teacher you will discuss the finer points of your DD specifically.

I spent my meeting last year praying hard that DS wouldn't be in the same class as the boy that bit and hit him constantly at nursery and even hit him in the queue going into the meeting (until I told him off in a big loud voice in front of everyone but it worked and the mum is useless).

Anyway, I digress, enjoy the meeting, it's a big day!

We have been to an intro evening already but have one at the school my DD will be attending next week. I think this is a 2 way thing, there definitely things they need to tell you but also things that you may like to ask! Hope this list helps:

• school uniform requirements
• what happens at drop off/pick up
• lunches
• what they would like children to know/be able to do
• what they will be teaching and the time frame, eg they will have covered all phonic sounds by Christmas
• theme for each term, eg colours for term1, shapes for term2
• what to do if they are sick
• info about taking them out of school for holidays
• school TD days and term dates
• assembly information
• what parents need to be doing to support children

BTW my prayers were answered, they were put in separate classes! He did thump him a few more times at playtime but I had a word with the lunchtime supervisor who kept a watchful eye!

aw good..horrible little bugger!, bet your ds is so much happier and getting on much better?

He has loved it, can't believe he's at the end of the reception year, it has flown. He's has changed so much, he's so confident and big and proudly showed his class at parent's evening and showed DH the boy's toilets!

All the anxieties you have when they start can overwhelm you but once they're in and you both know the drill it's all fine. Such an exciting time in their lives!
