I love koelsch! Not sure I'm agaisnt homeworks per se, I spent all my school life doing homeworks (bet my my mother hated them ). I'm against being stressed that ds, not even 5, has to deal with the pressure of being at school though.

About reading every night - we do school reading in the morning, if we have time. But, I read to each of children for about 30 minutes every evening and then they read to themselves for about half an hour. Slavishly reading the school book when they are already competent readers would leave little time to fit all this in and for them to have the opportunity to do music, play aeroplanes (or whatever) or maybe go swimming or to Beavers etc. Surely teachers trust us to be responsible adults and get the balance right.
