Any experience of Welbeck College Stem sixth form?

DS2 really wants a change of scene from school. He could go to college locally, but it seems that our local colleges are largely populated by people who didn't get the grades to stay at school and the curriculum offering is not inspiring.

Welbeck sounds perfect for him in terms of the education, life and pathway it offers but he doesn't want to go in the forces, so is looking at the Defence Equipment & Support path which would eventually lead to the MOD's civillian graduate entry scheme.

Does anyone have any experience or advice?

I knew it was a long shot, but anyone?

There've been a couple of threads On Welbeck previously that you might want to look at. From memory I think there were some issues with bullying, but they might be old?
Anecdotally, I’ve heard that if you don’t go on to join the MOD or armed forces then you have to pay back a sum of money to Welbeck as the places are heavily subsidised. So I would look into that quite carefully.
Unlike most sixth forms Welbeck means you’re setting off down a very narrow path at quite a young age, that’s not necessarily a bad thing if you have a drive and passion to join the armed forces, though I’m struggling to believe anyone would be passionate about joining the MOD (& I have 2 sons who both studied engineering at uni).

Have you looked at the other options available locally, eg a different school rather than a college, or considered state boarding schools?
