Any experience of sending your kids to school in France for a short spell?

I am a French national and I am thinking of sending my DS to France to stay with my parents and experience French school life and improve his French (he's quite fluent but not bilingual). Has anyone got experience of organising an exchange with a French child for example? How difficult is it to get your child registered in a school? Any advice welcome! Best age, length of time, etc.

I remember my french grandparents got their ( Canadian) granddaughter into their local primary school for a couple of weeks without too much bother. I presume your son has french nationality? I just wonder whether brexit would make it harder, if he just has a British passport. I attended french school in Algeria ( back in the 70s and 80s) and my parents had to pay when the uk wasn’t in the EU yet. My mum then moved very quickly to get a French passport!

Might be worth posting this in the “ living overseas” board for access to more informed posters.
