I get so frustrated when I help in ds's year 1 class. There's one little boy in particular- he's so bright and interested in everything - loves facts, knows lots and lots of things and wants to know more- but he just can't read. I really want to know why - if only he could, the doors that would open to him!

Katelyle, I think my DD is going to be like that...she loves everything, has a great memory for stories and asks loads of questions, but at the same age DS was asking me what the words in books were, what letters were, what the sounds were...she is just not interested. I will keep reading to her and talking about the story and pictures, I am sure she will come to it when ready. On the other had DS refused to use scissors until half way through reception, and I still have to practically staple him to his chair to do his written homework...he hates anything to do with writing!

Oliver Moon (he's a young wizard in wizard school) - a number of books in series - chapters are reasonably short and language not too hard.
