King Alfred School, London - any opinions ?

Have been trawling the internet for 'alternative' style schools and found this one. Not what I was originally looking for, but interesting... (bloody pricey tho ).

Any opinions ?

(would it be better to post this under primary and/or secondary ed instead ?)

Rich arty liberal north Londoners. Meejah types. Similar intake to some of the successful N. London comprehensives (minus the disruptive element) but obviously much more money sloshing around. Dr Tanya Byron would send her kids here. (Actually, come to think of it, she probably does).

The fees are too much anyway seeing as I want DS to have a sibling or two .

I have several friends / associates who have sent their kids here. All have been happy with it (very happy with it). Seems a pretty good school -although you're right, fees are extortionate!

Oh you know, that glam, serious professional but quite touchy-feely and telegenic psychologist woman off 'House of Tiny Tearaways". Married to an actor from The Bill. Rich too, I shouldn't wonder. And nice with it. [jealous emoticon]

But tbh, if I was paying those sums of money for the froglets' education it would be in order to get something that really isn't available in the state sector. I can't see what the advantage would be of sending kids to King Alfreds rather than, say, Fortismere. Apart from, presumably, not having to mix with a few kids from really difficult backgrounds. And everyone having more money, though not sure that's an advantage, myself.

Is Fortismere a state school ? Just glanced quickly at their website and it looks interesting, but doesn't actually tell you much .

Yes, state comprehensive, but high intake of liberal arty types affluent enough to live in Muswell Hill. The good Camden comprehensives are similar. But catchment areas are small, so you have to think ahead.

Jonathon Ross's children go/went there. I used to see him in the morning when I worked opposite.
