Is it both English GCSEs that you need to get a 4 in to not have to resit at college or just English language ? The local colleges English GCSE is called English language but says they will study xyz literature.

The government says you don’t have to resit if you get a 4 in either lit or Lang, but colleges might have their own requirements which go beyond that.

Either. However unless very strong on chosen subjects I'd suggest someone with a 4 in English language is likely to struggle with essays at A level. Most colleges only offer English language resits as it is easier to cover the syllabus in a year.

If you’re resitting, you have to resit language. A pass in lit counts in Y11, but a resit pass in lit doesn’t.

Unless your child likes to read, novels or anything else they are interested in, I am not sure that it's a good choice. English students read....... if they don't do so willingly and with enjoyment, it is flogging a dead horse. I did English A level and a humanities degree, but I will read anything in print.
