Where can I print out letters for ds to copy?

Ds (3.5) has recently become really obsessed with colouring and overwriting letters and names. I have printed some out on the computer for him, but as they're so dark, even on toner saving setting, he doesn't get such satisfaction from seeing his work creating the letters, iyswim. Is there a website where I can print out those dashed or dotted letters llike I used to have at school? A teacher's website maybe? I did a quick online search but didn't find anything obvious. Or a book I could buy? I looked in our local bookshop but they didn't have anything.

We bought some great books like this in WH Smiths in the 'pre-school learning' section - they are thin paperbacks full of dotted and dashed letters for various ages and stages.

I got a couple 'First Writing with Winnie the Pooh' & 'First Numbers with Thomas the Tank Engine'. Discount bookshop selling them off at £1 each ! Published by Egmont Books Ltd.
Think they also do similar ones in Woolworths that have gold star stickers for rewards

There's a font called "jardotty" which are formed from dots. I found on the internet somewhere.

Letterland do some reading and writing work books which are great - they have wavy lines etc which then lead onto the letter shapes for your child to draw over. The Book People used to have them.

What happens if you change the font colour of the ones you're printing to a pale grey?

SoupDragon · 18/07/2004 11:52

There's a download for Jardotty here . It's on the right hand side near the example.

boudicca · 18/07/2004 11:52

have you tried going to Ask.co.uk?
try putting in 'outlinr alphabets to download'

wilbur · 18/07/2004 11:54

I tried the pale grey thing, soupdragon, but I have an elderly laser printer which doesn't go in for subtleties and just printed out jet black anyway! Will look for jardotty though, then I can do names for him to copy.

I'll look for those books, too, thanks everyone!

Wilbur I have a dotty font at school. I will try to remember to bring it home tomorrow so I can email it to you.

Mind you its my first day back after maternity leave so if I get stressed and forget please forgive me

tamum · 18/07/2004 12:19

There's a free one here that looks perfect!

wilbur · 18/07/2004 12:20

That would be fantastic bbensley! Thank you! You can mail me through contact another talker. Good luck going back to work. Hope it's not too scary!

Tamum's font looks good too, check it out on your printer. It maybe that they are always going to be too dark on your printer tho, hope not

wilbur · 18/07/2004 12:30

I just downloaded Tamum's suggestion, but my computer is saying it can't unzip the file to install it to my fonts. Don't know why this would be, except that it's an old font maybe my computer doesn't like it.

I managed to unzip it and my pc is fairly new.

Actually I didnt unzip it, just went to install new font and it found it.

If that doesnt work I'll email it to you.

tamum · 18/07/2004 12:36

Sorry

SoupDragon · 18/07/2004 12:45

Did you try the jardotty one I linked to?

tamum · 18/07/2004 13:09

The only thing with that jardotty is that it's a cursive script, and I assumed wilbur wanted more "straight" letters for a 3 year old, maybe.

Easy · 18/07/2004 13:54

I think you might find what you want on this site .

Some of it is free, but you can subscribe to get at some more stuff.

Eureka! Found jardotty and also managed to unzip tamum's font (I was being a dork and just clicking on it, instead of installing it properly, duh). Great, both of them. Thank you and ds thanks you!
