How much do you pay on private school fees?

We're currently looking at a school that seems very expensive. It's 6 months - 13 years, but is more expensive than an amazing 3 years - 18 years, so just looking for comparison.

Thanks!

I was at a boarding school in South West that was 5,700 per term, I boarded so that added to the cost but I did get a discount on bursary

Baby care is very expensive so for the 6 months old fees would be higher than for a 3 year old. Fees normally vary with age so again a 3 year old pays a lot less than a secondary pupil. Are you comparing like with like?

DarcyandDaisythecats · 21/09/2017 12:34

That's how much year 6-8 costs at the one we are looking at, without boarding Shock

I'm comparing each year. I know a 6 month old can't be compared with a 3 year old?

You can easily find other schools' fees for comparison. £5700/term for years 6-8 at a day school would not be unusual around here (100 miles out of London)

SunsetBoulevard · 21/09/2017 14:10

£5,700 for day pupils sounds about right compared to most of our local indie schools (SE) for that age group although our nearest one is just over £9,100 a term for day and £12,500 for boarding.

lunar1 · 21/09/2017 14:14

£7800 per year for our school, we are in the north. That's from 3-11.

hertsandessex · 21/09/2017 16:42

£5700 is almost exactly the same our local school for years 4-8. It is then £7500 from year 9. Remember that there will be significant extras as well.

Fekko · 21/09/2017 16:44

Up to year 8 it was about 7.5, not its 8ish a term.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/09/2017 16:44

£7500 per term, upper sixth now thank god, just one more year left.

Mominatrix · 21/09/2017 18:06

Prep is about £6K a term. Senior school £7.5K + a term.

missyB1 · 21/09/2017 18:11

Our ds is year 4 we are currently paying 15k a year but next year (yr 5) for some bizarre read it goes up to 18k Hmm

TowerRingInferno · 21/09/2017 18:19

£3,500 per term (upper prep). Outside SE

LoyaltyAndLobster · 21/09/2017 18:24

Just under £7k per term (Central London Prep)

Allthebestnamesareused · 21/09/2017 18:31

Pre-prep: Full-time (Reception, Years 1 & 2) – £4,336 per term
Part-time Nursery (six sessions per week) – £2,924 per
term
Additional Nursery sessions – £39.92 per session

Prep : (years 3-6) School fees per term – £5,036
School fees per year – £15,108

Upper: (years 7-13) School fees per term – £5,555
School fees per year – £16,665

ujerneyson · 22/09/2017 08:28

I pay £3200 a term at prep for my youngest which excludes lunch . Middle was at a different prep and it was £4500 a term including lunch. My extras tend to come in at about £500 a term.

DayToDayGlobalShit · 22/09/2017 08:31

15k per year. 11 to 18

wheredoesallthetimego · 22/09/2017 08:36

Private girls school in the SE. £5200 per term and going up at 8% per year for the last few years - doubling time about ten years Shock

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/09/2017 08:43

Please bear in mind that fees will increase hugely. DD1's school (boarding) fees went up by £9,000 in the four years that she was there. We hadn't budgeted for that much.

Noofly · 22/09/2017 19:31

We are in Scotland and our annual fees (Edinburgh day school) are a bit over £10,000.

AJPTaylor · 22/09/2017 20:49

We are in East Sussex. Our local private school is 4k a term up to Year 8, then 5.5k up to year 13.

Hoppinggreen · 22/09/2017 20:52

Private day school in Yorkshire
Around £10k per year including a 25% scholarship, that includes meals, insurance and books as well

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 22/09/2017 20:59

Gosh! There are schools that start from 6 months old? I've genuinely never heard of that before!

My god-daughter went to a prep school nursery from age 3 and paid roughly £3k per term which increased to around £6k by age 11. Her DM's circumstances had changed by the time DGD reached 11, so she went to a state secondary school after that as the fees to continue were no longer manageable. From memory, Year 7 wasn't going to be too bad but Years 10 to 13 would have been a different story.

WiseDad · 22/09/2017 21:01

Why don't you just look this up online? Fees are published, the extras are what start to bite. My eldest son's day school costs me £6500 a term including lunch but his (optional and CCF related) arctic survival trip is £1500 for a week next Easter. His brothers prep is pretty much the same but paid monthly.

Also there is supply and demand at play but also a maximum they can raise fees as well. Lots of demand will lead to 8% rises. We see a lower rise each year, maybe 4 or 5% in London.

Ttbb · 22/09/2017 21:04

Where I am preprep (age four) starts at 3,000 a term so max 10k a year after everything.
