6 sheets here, I think it's way too much (plus 2 reading books)

Nothing specific - he's got his reading book home - which we've nearly finished anyhow......and that's it¬!

WideWebWitch · 30/03/2007 17:18

None at all for year 4 here and it's an outstanding school according to Ofsted (and me!)

RedLorryYellowLorry · 30/03/2007 17:19

Nuffink! She's got a new reading book which is almost finished now as they came home at 1.30 pm today.

idlemum · 30/03/2007 17:28

Sounds like alot for a year1. At half term my dd (yr2) had to read 4 books by the same author and write a book review for each.A challenge as we went away and were trying to have fun every day! This hols she has a literacy sats paper and a maths sats paper.

Ladymuck · 30/03/2007 17:31

A reading book, and he has to do a book report on it (though they have a proforma for the book report so shouldn't be too difficult).

There is also a booklet with some dot to dots and mazes and one or two more mathematical puzzles hidden in the middle. This is optional, and won't be collected in.

He also has to revise some timestables, but i think that that is unusal for Yr 1. We don;t go back until 24th, so plenty of time... (visions of being jetlagged and working our way through a book on 23 April!)

My son has 3 reading books and he needs to practise writing his surname.

ceolas · 30/03/2007 17:32

homework???

neither of them have any

northender · 30/03/2007 17:54

Don't understand the obsession with homework at such a young age. I think he'll learn quite enough with all the things he'll get to do in the holidays.

The only thing that our school really emphasises is that the children should be encouraged to read during the hols esp in Reception and Year 1 when they are still learning to read.

OrvilleRedenbacher · 30/03/2007 18:03

2 reading booksa nd summat tod o ( as yes unlooked at)

Twiglett · 30/03/2007 18:09

a reading book

and

a 6 page photocopied sheet with boxes for pictures and lines for words where they have to write all about themselves so that there new teacher who starts next time can get to know them .. DS seems quite interested in telling her what he likes and doesn't and what he's good at and isn't

Merlin · 30/03/2007 18:12

Just 2 reading books here.

Jelley · 30/03/2007 18:13

Just a reading book

Whizzz · 30/03/2007 18:14

Yr 1 - none and I am gobsmacked that the yr 7 class I support haven't got any either what is the world coming to !

northender · 30/03/2007 18:15

I'd have been happy with reading book and them being asked to draw pictures and write about what they've done in the holidays.

Nothing specific here.

Milliways · 30/03/2007 18:23

DS (Yr7) has finished his already, DD (Yr11) has endless revision...

beckybrastraps · 30/03/2007 18:27

Two reading books. Same as every Friday. Not thank the Lord another project...

SoupDreggon · 30/03/2007 18:28

None. Nothing at al, nothing nothing nothing nothing

yesireallycan · 30/03/2007 18:30

None - and that's just the way it should be, IMO.

wildwoman · 30/03/2007 18:32

Without wanting to start a fight, I'm feeling poorly so be nice, what is the problem with homework at this age? I don't think a few worksheets would really ruin my dd1's holiday or stress her out. She asks for workbooks when we are in a bookshop becuase she enjoys it. I'm not trying to boast about a swatty daughter but as she is only in reception I would genuinely appreciate the opinions of more experienced parents than myself.

foxinsocks · 30/03/2007 18:36

have yours all finished school? We have still got another week!

WanderingTrolley · 30/03/2007 18:43

Mindee at private school: 1 book (ORT level 7)

Mindee at poorly regarded state school: holiday journal; reading; 3 maths sheets; 12 spellings.

sunnysideup · 30/03/2007 19:08

wildwoman, for me the objection is that not all children are so keen to do this sort of work as your dd, by any means.

That can mean that children can see these worksheets as a pain, an intrusion, and this seems a sure fire way to help turn them off from learning at a very early age! Many children in year one may prefer much 'freer' play that has nothing, but nothing to do with sitting down doing formal-ish worksheets.

I also feel year one is still young for formal education and that what the kids do at school is enough; freedom during the holidays is what I'd like for ds.

RedLorryYellowLorry · 30/03/2007 19:13

In the words of dd's teacher "they have enough years of homework". She's a very experienced teacher and a lovely person(very dry sense of humour) and will be leaving to have her first baby very soon
