Obviously I happy for her having her first baby but sad she will leave iyswim

wildwoman · 30/03/2007 19:17

I see your point sunnysideup, I will probably see it even clearer when dd2 starts school as she is completely different! Thanks for responding

seeker · 30/03/2007 19:24

Year 1- ds none. Good.

Year 6 dd - some maths, which will take, I guess, about an hour or so (she will do it in the car on the way to Cornwall) and "make a game using an electrical curcuit" which I suspect will involve the whole family! (anybody got any helpful ideas?)

Dazie · 30/03/2007 19:34

Ds1 still has 3days left but he will come home with spellings and a new reading book.

Sometimes I think its nice for them to come home and have a rest not have pressure to do home work or for me to have to find time to do it when we could be out doing stuff. Our school tend to send fun things home like a certain topic ie dinosaurs which they can make write about or draw but there is no pressure to do it.

DS Yr 1:

Two reading books, a family tree project, a project about Holy Week, and some Maths.

Apart from the Holy Week booklet, no real change.

NuttyMuffins · 30/03/2007 19:41

Dd2 - Yr 2 - No homework at all, her teacher has left today too .

Dd1 - Yr 4 - Project on India, dd has chosen to do Indian festivals.

singersgirl · 30/03/2007 19:47

Y1 and Y4 - Nothing! I'm shocked TBH by how much all these poor little mites get.

Hulababy · 30/03/2007 22:56

Reception age: no school book; but 3 mini book review things to write, with pictures - one for each week off. First written homework we have had. DD was so excited about, she insisted on doing oen this afternoon (bet that won't last, lol!)

christywhisty · 30/03/2007 23:03

Year 4 about 6 pages of maths and english but she has finished most of them already.

Year 6 a practice maths sats test (already done half) and an enlish sheet.

EasterSparklerEgg · 30/03/2007 23:05

DD1 (7) has a French project
DD2 (5) two reading books

maggiems · 30/03/2007 23:11

maggiems - that seems like somewhat of a dig at people! Not everyone will have that amounf of free time with their children!

We are on holiday for the first week, and the second week I am working 3 days, and have arranged to meet a friend one other day. So, we don't have loads of spare time actually.

DD will do her homework and as it happens she hasn't got loads and she enjoys it, but even so...

cece · 30/03/2007 23:22

none it is a holiday

maggiems ds does enjoy homework and I'm sure we can find the time to do it I just find it completely unnecessary at this stage. A holiday should be a holiday after all. No need for such a patronising tone. I can think of many more valuable things to fill our "12 hours a day of free time" with than sheets of homework.

Sometimes it is good for them to do 'nothing' Sometimes kids seem to have their time very organised for them. I seme to remember when I was a kid being left to play for hours and they are some of my happiest school holiday memories.

fussymummy · 31/03/2007 00:07

My yr1 6year old has to write 10 sentences about what shes done in the easter holidays!
She also has 2 reading books.

My yr4 nearly 9 year old son has to write about his name!
Where it came from, who chose it, any special meaning etc...

singersgirl · 31/03/2007 00:15

It's not that we don't have time, it's that I think it's completely unnecessary at this age. I never had homework at primary school, not once, with the exception of learning tables. We never had spellings to learn or projects to do at home. I can't believe it's essential to young children's learning.

maggiems · 31/03/2007 09:11

Hullababy - I wasnt having a dig at anyone and I never said that I would be spending 12 hours a day with my Dt's, I said that THEY would have 12 hours free time a day. They are off for 2 weeks and in fact the only time I am off work is the weekend after Easter (exceptional circumstances workwise this year). What i was trying to say is that i dont think there is anything wrong with doing a small amount of reading, writing spellings etc as long as they are happy to do it especially given that they have a lot of free time for 2 weeks and I dont think 15 or 20 mins a day is going to have a drastic effect on how they enjoy their holiday. One of my Dt's struggles with concentration and therefore has fallen behind. The teacher has given us some things to work on generally but as I work 4 days a week it doesnt leave much time during term time so although I nor their Dad would dream of spending anything longer than 20 mins a day doing work we plan to do a little.

Northender -I didnt intend to be patronising and I never said I would be doing sheets of homework. I agree that a holiday should be a holiday but sometimes there are circumstances that warrant a different approach to what one would like. TBH I would give my right arm to forget about the whole thing for 2 weeks but i cant.

Sorry if I offended anyone. Never been critised here before

marialuisa · 31/03/2007 09:46

DD at relatively academic private school-none.

Dsis in mixed YR-Y2 class at small village school- 2 Comprehension workbooks, 10 maths worksheets, 4 reading books (all of which she's had before) and 20 spellings.

charliecat · 31/03/2007 09:47
