Just for Popsycal

How did everyone do? Teachers how did your classes perform?

OP posts:
charlize · 14/07/2004 16:13

Thanks popsy! The 3 other v bright kids in ds class also got 77 or 78 for english including the girl who normally comes top in english. So I was v proud of ds for equalling them as obviously maths is his best subject and he hates english!!
Strangley enough the girl who got 91% in english is the girl whose mother is a yr6 teacher in another school.
I have my conspiracy thories as this girl does not normally excel in class above the other girls who got 77%.
Is it abousltly out of the question popsy in your opinion that this mother had a peek at the english exam.
Iam not jealous honestly

Janh · 14/07/2004 16:14

lilibet, I missed your post before somehow - how fantastic of DS1! What a little hero! Give him a pat on the head from us

popsycal · 14/07/2004 16:15

If they were playing by the rule bok then yes, it was impossible....

that is unless the said mother is also a SATs marker....

Janh · 14/07/2004 16:17

charlize, FWIW one of the Y6 teachers at our school always used to swear that the SATs co-ordinators at some schools must open the papers ahead of time and drop hints (because those schools' SATs results were better than all their other academic achievements would indicate).

popsycal · 14/07/2004 16:18

janh is right - some schools do that but now they are checked so much more thoroughly
the LEA can, and do, drop in unnannounced at any point in time and check

charlize · 14/07/2004 16:41

Yes Jan and popsy, I remember reading in the paper a while ago that some schools had gotten into trouble for dropping hintsto pupils etc.
I suppose you are more likely to get found out if your own class suddenly get level 5s when they were not expected but iam incredibly suspicious of this woman any way.
She is the pushiest parent you could ever meet and once went behind my back to try to gazump me on a house purchase so i already know she is sly and devious
My own sons teacher told me she looked at the papers AFTER they had been done so it makesme wonder what else they could do.

Obviously popsy the vast majority of teachers like yourself wouldn't dream at peeking but this mother I wouldn't put it past if it was in any wat in her capabilities.
It doesnt bother me because she beat my ds in english as I say english isn't his best and I would't expect him to top it but two of the other girls who got 78 are exceptional at english and I just can't believe they are 11 marks behind this girl

charlize · 14/07/2004 16:48

Ok Iam not obbsesed I promise I just love a good conspiracy.

Heres the senario! Popsy you say the lea can drop in at any time so what if this mother waited until after hometime on the night before the english exam. Then opened the papers and had a look. She then went home and helped dd write a wonderful essay on school timetables blah blah blah.
Next morning mother arrives bright and early keeeps papers in the envelope in her desk or drawe ready for english exam at 9 am.

hmmm the plot thickens

popsycal · 14/07/2004 16:49

possible

popsycal · 14/07/2004 16:50

but - the head should be responsible for the key which locks the cupboard where the papers must be kept until one hour before the test.......

popsycal · 14/07/2004 16:54

There are a few reasons why papers can legitimately be opened early:

  1. there is a child in the class who has particular special needs where the paper needs to be amended. These needs must be serious and must be applied for way in advance and agreed upon for 24 hours early opening. wehad to enlarge one pupils test paper and put it on blue paper but were not allowed early opening....
  2. the teacher is a SATs marker....they have training on how to mark their specific tests about 1-2 weeks before the test and therefore have access to the papers

all other reasons are not legitimate.....

as a matter of interest....there is now a 'malpractice hotline' where people can anonymously 'tip off' anyone they suspect of cheating

charlize · 14/07/2004 16:57

oooer!! popsy don't tempt me
They could never prove it any way.Surely.

charlize · 14/07/2004 16:59

Ok so the head would have to be in on it
Unless.......she slipped a sedative into his mornig brew took the keys fom around his neck and ...looked at the papers.

popsycal · 14/07/2004 16:59

hmmmmm

popsycal · 14/07/2004 17:00

or maybe she is a sats marker

charlize · 14/07/2004 17:02

Is it quite unusual to be a sats marker as well??

popsycal · 14/07/2004 17:02

not at all...

charlize · 14/07/2004 17:04

Btw Iam joking about the sedative! Paranoia is setting in that you thought I was actually that crazy.

charlize · 14/07/2004 17:05

Ok I have decided she is a sats marker
Well the little cheat!

popsycal · 14/07/2004 17:07

i knew you were joking charlize...

by the way, to add to your conspiracy theory, people are usually only SATS markers for one subject...
did she seem really stressed even when sats were over then became calmer about4 weeks ago?!?

charlize · 14/07/2004 17:17

Oh my god.... Popsy you read my mind!!!
I was just about to ask you that.
Her maths and science marks were not that good.
She was a good few marks behind the other bright kids.

popsycal · 14/07/2004 17:18

there you go then....

popsycal · 14/07/2004 17:19

however,,,,
if i were a sats marker, the english paper would be the last one of the three i would want to mark - they are a nightmare!

is she the literacy coordinator? does she have a special interest in english?

charlize · 14/07/2004 17:21

Popsy I don't know if she was stressed cause i rarely see the woman. She doen't pick up at 3pm cause she is still in school herself.
But her face was like thunder at prize day, despite her cheating her little darling only came 3rd in class, and this was with a 11 point lead in english on the girl who came 1st.

Momof2 · 14/07/2004 19:00

My DD has just had her results. She got level 3's for english and a 2a for Maths, but science and another maths result and listening and speaking it says 2. I thought it had to be either 2a, b or c? Am very confused does anyone know - or is 2 the lowest of the level 2 results?thanks

efmach · 14/07/2004 20:27

Popsycal, hope you don't mind me asking this. What is the difference between teachers assessment, task(?) and test result? This is so confusing..!!!! Sorry to be so dense!
