Told off on school run

I am a single dad with a full time job as a solicitor in the cc, and therefore don't have much time to waste in the mornings. Today I was dropping my two dd's off at primary school and was running late for work so I pulled up outside school and let them get out and go to the playground together (they are in years 4+5 so responsible enough to cross a road). Anyway later on when picking them up I was confronted by one of the teaching assistants who waits at the gates who said I had been driving dangerously! I was quite embarrassed and told her I was very busy and it was none of her business. Am I in the wrong?

My DH got told off for driving too fast when dropping DD off. He wasn't going 'very' fast, in the usual sense, but too fast for when there are lots of little children arriving at school. He was defensive and uppity about it. But he sucked it up. He's not a solicitor, but he is a well educated and respected manager in a telecoms company. As if that should matter.
Being intellectually gifted does not make you a good driver.

Te He Shatners
A bloody tank of a range, an absolute beast of a car, don't you know. Grin

Mumofttwins · 27/10/2016 20:56

TA was just being a pita.....a few of them are full of self-importance Grin

charlestrenet · 27/10/2016 21:02

Do you often cross examine and expound at some length to people who were nowhere near and have no way of knowing about events you are investigating for court? Is that why you're so busy?

Giselaw · 27/10/2016 21:02

You told her as far as you knew you weren't?

Instead of replying, by driving dangerously, what exactly are you referring to and let her try to explain what her definition of driving dangerously is?

And after you had your morning coffee and thought what the actual fuck, you still haven't been able to come up with an adequate response to her and posted about it. With being a solicitor and all.

J1xxx · 27/10/2016 21:03

Maybe a smaller car would be better if you cant park it. Do you do a lot of off roading?
Never said I can't park it, just didn't have the space on this occasion. No need for sarcasm

midcenturymodern · 27/10/2016 21:06

midcenturymodern it is too big for me to have pulled in to fully be next to the kerb so I was sticking out, there was still room behind

Presumably there was an entire empty road behind it. The point is it was obscuring the view that other road users coming the other way had of your kids as they crossed the road. Didn't anyone ever tell you not to cross behind a car?

No need for sarcasm

I respectfully disagree.

J1xxx · 27/10/2016 21:06

Giselaw this happened as I was picking them up, so didn't really have time to "come up with a response". And I posted to check whether I might have missed anything, and see if anyone has had a similar problem.

So there's nothing at all about your driving or parking that any reasonable person would consider dangerous, given the school vicinity?

I just can't really fathom why you became argumentative, when surely you would want to know what she thought had been dangerous.

J1xxx · 27/10/2016 21:11

I know now and wish I had asked her what she meant but obviously wasn't thinking at the time! And I'm an argumentative person in general, comes with the job lol.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 27/10/2016 21:37

I can honestly say I have never had a 'similar problem'. In eight years of driving to and from First School a TA never once pulled me aside to say I had been driving dangerously.

Phew.

Silvereyes · 27/10/2016 21:39

J1xxx no, being argumentative doesn't come with the job. I say this as someone in the legal profession. Perhaps you could look at your delivery?

PinkSquash · 27/10/2016 21:41

Maybe less aggressive driving would solve a lot of your problems?

ample · 27/10/2016 21:49

It's possible that this is a case of range rover envy [by the TA]

ample · 27/10/2016 21:50

Drive-by drop off Grin
Have witnessed a few of those.

DesolateWaist · 27/10/2016 21:54

I included my job to show that I am a responsible person, and to show why I did not have the time to park up and walk my kids into the playground.

So other people with 'lesser' jobs don't have to get to places on time and aren't nearly as busy as you?

Perhaps the TA shouldn't have picked you up on it but your attitude of 'but I am a busy and important person so the rules don't apply to me, only the little people like you' shows that you might be the problem here.

And I'm an argumentative person in general
You spelt cunt wrong.

metaphoricus · 27/10/2016 22:09

And I'm an argumentative person in general, comes with the job lol

Oh dear. Not one of the solicitors I know would do 'lol'.

And they would be way above doing 'lol' on usenet.

I think you need to rethink your integrity, if you are indeed a solicitor.

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/10/2016 22:10

ample

why would anyone be envious of such an unreliable vehicle?

metaphoricus · 27/10/2016 22:13

For feck's sake, just suck it up. You did a too fast drive by drop off, and now you've been told. Who do you think you are? Donald Trump?

Bedsheets4knickers · 27/10/2016 22:18

Just put it down to a bad morning . 9&10 perfectly fine to cross a road and go into school alone . I would say your agitation may of shown in your driving , mine does . If anything you'll drive/park better tomorrow and the day after etc . Don't stress about it . Nothing harmful occurred x

TheFlyingFauxPas · 27/10/2016 22:21

Never said I can't park it, just didn't have the space on this occasion

Surely if one can park one can judge whether or not they are able to fit in said space, not blame said space for not fitting you in it Hmm

elastamum · 27/10/2016 22:23

Perhaps she was pissed off that you dropped your DC off without realising it is half term Confused

DesolateWaist · 27/10/2016 22:24

Never said I can't park it, just didn't have the space on this occasion

No, there was space on this occasion, just not a space that was close enough for you because you too busy and important to park further away.

J1xxx · 27/10/2016 22:25

not one of the solicitors I know would do 'lol'.
Maybe I'm a lot younger and less boring than the many solicitors you seem to know. Lol.

MistressMerryWeather · 27/10/2016 22:25

It's not half term in Scotland and Northern Ireland, elastamum.

DS1's half term starts on Monday.
