anyone's dc sit the 11+ at their school? what was the registration "system"?

My ds is at a private school and they apparently sit the exam there. I rang today and they haven't registered him - I'm very confused as to what the system was as I didn't hear anything. I have independently put him in for some exams in different areas but have no idea what this 11 + in the school is about .
I have called them and they said he isn't registered and they will call me back.
A set of exams is tomorrow (if done via the grammars) but my son says they sit in January??
I'm Abit miffed as I moved him to a private school (13 dc in the class) specifically for this and they didn't even send any info at all, I hadn't even heard about it until ds told me last night.

11+ is in 2 weeks here. You have to register them for it, not the school and it isn't taken at the school but various high schools in the area.

When did you move his school? Registration is months and months in advance in our area.
11+ is tomorrow here, registration closed well before summer holiday.

Registration closed end of June. The area I'm in has a few options (in between a few grammars). The website for the grammar set that the school sits says its a partner school (I just found this now) and some schools have automatic registration. I don't know how out of 13 dc they didn't think to tell me any of this info??i never heard about partner schools and all of this. All of the dc except mine is taking the test in the school.

Oh no! I hope being a 'partner school' your DC's school is able to enter him last minute. What a terrible situation to be in. I hope it gets sorted. Good luck to your DS for his exams.

It is bad of the school not to tell you but it sounds like you have registered your son for the exams he needs to take anyway.

I would arrange a meeting with the school to check what their exam is for.

Many grammar schools' 11+ exams are coming up in the next few weeks, depending on the area.

Some independent schools also call the entrance exam (to continue to senior independent schools) 11+ exams. These entrance exams tend to be in the January of year 6.

Around here, for all the state grammar schools' 11+ exam, parents have to register their own children via the relevant grammar school. The primary school (either state or private) has nothing to do with the 11+, and all the kids sit the 11+ at the grammar school so will have received their registration info months ago already.

Check with the grammar school you're interested in, to see if your son is registered.

If you moved him specifically to sit a specific test, how come you know nothing about it now?

As CreamTea says, the Sept and Jan 11+ tests are for different things. The ones in Sept are for state grammars, and it's down to you as a parent to sort those out. Registration for those will have closed some weeks ago.

The ones in Jan are for private schools, and the school itself may well assume your child is doing certain ones, but others you need to sort yourself.

They excluded him from 11+ preparation today and didn't call me back either

I wonder if the prep they were doing was for their own 11+ exams in January, and they have excluded him from this if they know your intention is to remove him from the school and send him to a state grammar? I haven't heard of a prep school with an attached senior school ever helping prep for exams at other school, let alone host the exam.

It's not an attached secondary - it's the transfer test for the local grammars. But today since I realised he isn't registered to sit it in the school, they've excluded him from the preparation. I guess because they can't use his score to boost their profile so he doesn't matter now. He was really upset when I collected him - he had to read a book whilst the others did practise papers
