Hi, my 8 year old son has expressed interest in learning guitar. We're in Petworth, West Sussex and I wondered if anyone had any recommendations? He's into rock but i'd like him to learn properly so perhaps classical?

My daughter was doing the rock school thing at her school and getting nowhere until we started using Dan O'Neill in Petworth. I had a recommendation (which looks like I'm now passing on) from another mum at the school...he's on www.danoneill.co.uk.

Hope that helps?

Rock is proper!

DS got the 3/4 size Fender Squier strat about that age and taught himself using Absolute Beginners Guitar books 1 and 2 and Rockschool grade books which are excellent. He's outgrown that guitar now and is doing Rockschool Grade 6 in July.

I doubt he would've continued if it was some dull classical rubbish he was learning!

think the lesson is that they need to play what motivates - not sure I'd class classical as dull rubbish though.

Thanks for the tip Lisa. I've contacted Dan O'Neill and he seems like he'll be able to help - and he has some good feedback on the web page you sent so fingers crossed. Thanks again

This might be useful for any one else with very young children learning.
