DS now age 11 has and still hates writing. Always been mentioned at parents evenings since year 3 etc... He is academnically spot on with everything else, but just doesnt enjoy writing joined up, it becomes untidy and a bit scruffy.

As he approaches 2ndy in Sept not sure where to go from here - can drag him to water it seems but just cant make him drink.

My Ds is Y9 now think his writing is worse now than it was in primary. He has never enjoyed the physical act of writing and it shows. The only thing I could suggest is to try different pens - his writing doesn't look so bad with some types. None of his teachers have ever really commented on it though.

It really doesn't seem to matter to secondary teachers so long as they can actually read it. My ds's handwriting and presentation is appalling but none of his teachers seem to bother him about it, even though I've asked them about it.

I had this with my now year 8 boy. When he got to secondary the teachers stopped mentioning it. I told him to stop trying to write in cursive and now although its not great it is mostly legible.

ukgirl please don't give up. I'm a GCSE examiner in an essay-based subject and it's such hard work if you struggle to read a script. Examiners are under tremendous time pressure when they are marking, and one's heart sinks at a barely legible script that is going to take ages to puzzle out.
