Thought I'd go ahead and start. Found the old threads really interesting and would welcome ongoing input from those who've been through the whole process.
Ds in Year 5 and we are looking at a mixture of grammar schools and indies for 11+ Whitgift recommended this year - we've been told there is a drive to raise academic standards. We're going to the Open afternoon on 10th Nov.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum wish I had found it earlier Sad.
Have accepted a place at Trinity and DS is very excited. Just wondering, has anyone received confirmation from T that their place has been secured as I have only recieved email correspondance about a trip to Iceland for the lower years in 2017 Confused??

JPenny84 · 08/03/2016 17:22

*correspondence
**received
First time nerves, sorry! Blush

There is a lot of communcation from W certainly to 10+ entrants as mentioned already. The two things I would say is firstly the timetable isn't received until school starts, which can feel slightly troubling as you want to know if sports kits etc... need to be packed in the first week; and secondly the 10+ Garda trip will come around very quickly. So it is important that you and your DS are prepared for the best part of a week apart - a minority of boys will struggle at first but it is an amazing trip and DS insists that ice cream and pizza in the UK are pale imitations of the real McCoy. I would also suggest packing a pillow for the coach journey and a mobile phone able to call the UK from Italy as they will be able to call at least once while in Italy and also when in transit.

Berora · 08/03/2016 18:21

JPenny84, I am not a Trinity parent, but would assume that if you received an email about a trip, i.e. clearly intended for boys already at the school, you can safely assume your DS has a place. I guess a confirmation of his place would have been posted by letter, rather than emailed, so it may arrive tomorrow or day after.

I wouldn't worry but if you're feeling anxious at all, there is no harm in either ringing or emailing the Admissions office and asking whether you should have received an acknowledgement of your offer acceptance. Smile

Foragogo · 08/03/2016 18:43

Hi JPenny and welcome to a very useful thread! I also got the email about the trip but I did phone up yesterday to check they'd got our form so I think you're definitely registered if you got the mail :)

JPenny84 · 08/03/2016 18:58

Thanks Foragogo and Berora. Foragogo! Can I ask are you considering the Iceland trip? It took me by surprise as they have not started at T yet, March 2017 seems like a very long time away to be considering such a trip Confused

SJ69 · 08/03/2016 19:25

JPenny84

For T 10+, we did receive short a letter to thank you returned Form of Acceptance and deposit. And New Boys and Parents Morning on 25th June and details will be posting later in the month. So I guess your DS is 11+ because I didn't receive email about the Iceland trip.

JPenny84 · 08/03/2016 19:48

SJ69 yes he is 11+. Ok, thank you im going to assume our letter is in the post.

Foragogo · 08/03/2016 19:57

The trip looks amazing doesn't it! very tempting but not sure we can justify it in year 1 - let me know if you go for it!

Whitgift has announced an appointment of the new Head, Mr Christopher Ramsey of The King's School in Chester. Does anyone know what to expect, please?

AveEldon · 12/04/2016 16:36

He has a blog www.kingschester.co.uk/index.php?mact=News,md609b,default,1&md609bcategory=HM%20Blog&md609bsummarytemplate=HM%20Blog&md609bnumber=1&md609bpagenumber=1&md609breturnid=205&md609breturnid=205&page=205

AveEldon · 12/04/2016 16:37

Sorry you will have to cut and paste the link

Berora · 12/04/2016 20:30

Thank you, AveEldon, I can see you've edited the link for me Star. This is very helpful, I will have a read Smile.

foragogo · 14/04/2016 15:33

so not Mark Bishop then :)

Berora · 14/04/2016 17:39

Indeed not. It sounded like he wanted to slow down a bit, anyway - not sure he would get much rest if taking on a school even bigger than Trinity. Smile

Berora · 14/04/2016 20:29

This is just in case someone may be interested in Whitgift's second hand uniform sale in May:

"The last Second Hand Uniform Sale this academic year will be on SATURDAY 14TH MAY from 10.30am – 12.00noon in the Concert Hall. Please do come along if you are looking for good quality items of uniform. All proceeds from the sale go to the School. Please note that cash and cheques ONLY can be accepted as payment as there is no facility to process card payments."

Requesting more uniform!

Berora · 14/04/2016 20:31

I didn't mean to copy the 'requesting more...' bit Blush

AveEldon · 14/04/2016 21:56

Has anyone booked in for uniform fittings already?

Berora · 14/04/2016 22:09

We did, a few weeks go. If you haven't yet, give the school shop a ring and you may still be able to choose a slot rather than accept what's available. Smile

foragogogo · 22/06/2016 11:55

Hi All - getting excited about September? I know ds is and so am I which is a bit sad - living vicariously through them! Anyway, I have a trivial uniform question for Trinity parents. I always thought the uniform was black trousers but I noticed that the latest iteration of the uniform list that came with the welcome pack said charcoal grey? Is it changing or is it either? I have only ever seen boys in black trousers.

Seeline · 22/06/2016 14:45

It's always said charcoal grey - they all wear black, because you can get nice cheap ones from the supermarkets Wink
Whether the new Head will turn a blind eye I don't know. I think black looks smarter with a black blazer.

schbittery · 22/06/2016 15:17

Thanks seeline - I think Black looks smarter too! Ds currently has dark grey ones in Y6 which would probably still fit in September but I was going to buy some new black ones in the next size up. Even Hewitts said get black. Hmmm maybe I'll buy a couple of pairs of black and see how it goes.

foragogogo · 22/06/2016 15:19

thanks from me too - think I'll do the same thing.

Any other uniform tips - do they really need 3 pairs of shorts?

SquirmOfEels · 22/06/2016 15:30

"It's always said charcoal grey - they all wear black, because you can get nice cheap ones from the supermarkets"

ASDA do charcoal grey.
