Thought I'd go ahead and start. Found the old threads really interesting and would welcome ongoing input from those who've been through the whole process.
Ds in Year 5 and we are looking at a mixture of grammar schools and indies for 11+ Whitgift recommended this year - we've been told there is a drive to raise academic standards. We're going to the Open afternoon on 10th Nov.

Soon I hope! I'm exhausted!

I have to say though that I really could not fault any if the 3 schools we applied to in their treatment of the children and us, all have really, really impressed with me with the organisation and, more importantly, how they have treated nervous children and tried to put them at ease. People looking at next year, although the process is tiring, the schools are nowhere near as forbidding or scary as I had imagined. They do seem to realise that they are dealing with 10/11 who have probably never been under so much pressure before unlike other local schools I could mention

Provencalroseparadox · 15/01/2016 08:34

Agree with that forago. The treatment at both E and W has been wonderful

Provencalroseparadox · 15/01/2016 08:35

Sorry foragogo

RJsMa · 15/01/2016 08:35

Is it just me or is anyone else waiting for word from W? We're sports scholarship applicants and he assessment is next week. Should I just assume it's a no? Do they send letters either way?

Good luck those with upcoming assessments/interviews.

Provencalroseparadox · 15/01/2016 08:44

I'd call them RJsMa. They have been lovely and helpful when I've rung

kidstaxidriver · 15/01/2016 09:04

We only got out letter yesterday for sports scholarship and that is for Tuesday! I think you will hear for the Wednesday and Thursday sports dates either today or tomorrow. Fingers x

mummytummy3 · 15/01/2016 09:05

Good luck Kidstaxidriver! Relax now.

sissieisstressed · 15/01/2016 09:35

Provencalrose is right, they are very nice and helpful on the phone. I just rang them and they confirmed the marking is still ongoing and will last until next week... So as long as you have not received a NO you can still hope for the best!

Ahmedfamily · 15/01/2016 09:37

Morning all,
We are a bursary applicant and our interview is on a Saturday . Is there any significance in that or am I over analysing with my negative thoughts??

RJsMa · 15/01/2016 10:27

Thanks all I'll try and stay calm. Even I'm a bit panicked that it's Friday and I haven't heard anything.....thank goodness it is. Happy Friday all.

Seeline · 15/01/2016 12:53

RJsMa We were phoned on a Saturday morning to arrange an interview at T - although that was 4 years ago now.

Berora · 15/01/2016 14:09

Seeline - thank you for letting me know. We are not applying for any scholarships at T, so hopefully they will not need to talk to me. It is all nerve-racking as it is!

Foragogo - I totally agree with you re. handling of the whole process by the schools - they are very good. They must realise that 10/11 years old children find the exams stressful and a lot of parents are nearing a state of total mental and emotional exhaustion... I know I am. Going to get some Chocolate now...

foragogo · 15/01/2016 15:42

Just got the call from T to arrange an interview next week and the admissions lady said she had "loads of calls still to make" so hopefully won't be too long to wait.

sissieisstressed · 15/01/2016 15:53

Just got a letter from W inviting DS to an interview. Temporarily relieved!

Berora · 15/01/2016 16:17

Great news, sissieisstressed!Smile

sissieisstressed · 15/01/2016 16:22

Thank you Berora, I was starting to think my turn would never come... Fingers x to all of you, 4 more weeks and it's all over Smile

kidstaxidriver · 15/01/2016 16:37

Great news sissiesstressed!

foragogo · 15/01/2016 16:40

brilliant news sissie - they're all filtering through.

kidstaxidriver · 15/01/2016 16:51

Dare I ask what percentage of kids get turned down from W at interview stage? Or can we all remain fairly positive??

Firefox1066 · 15/01/2016 18:23

kidstaxidriver…I think the general consensus is that 75% of those called for interview are offered BUT that doesn't give much comfort because one needs to know how many are full fee, bursary, scholarship etc

sissieisstressed · 15/01/2016 18:24

Kidstaxidriver: I have seen some statistics posted on another thread, I think it's around 35-40% being rejected post interview but I don't know how accurate it is Confused

sissieisstressed · 15/01/2016 18:25

I much prefer Firefox statistic Wink

sissieisstressed · 15/01/2016 18:26

For those who received a letter from W, did it specifiy anything about the content of the interview?

kidstaxidriver · 15/01/2016 18:33

Not sure I like too many of the statistics?! Back to the wine!!

Berora · 15/01/2016 18:45

Ahmedfamily, unless I am confused (which I may well be by now), I've seen someone's post earlier on saying that Trinity usually do their bursary applicants interviews on Saturdays, in which case it's just the way they do things. And even if I got it wrong, I'm sure the day of the week has absolutely no significance for the outcome of the interview. You will just have less traffic to get there. Smile
