Is anyone familiar with this version of the Christmas story that ds was told in Reception

Bearing in mind that his version is not always entirely accurate, ds1 came home from school and told me that they had been talking about Christmas so I asked what the teacher said, expecting at least something resembling a version of the Nativity story.

But he told me that a tree had been very cold and lonely and then some birds came and decorated it to make it feel better - I am utterly bemused. I realise this may be some attempt by the school to be PC but still find it strange.

the sleepy shepherd will always have a little place in my heart as that was her first school play, btw dd was a cow in it!!

Lovely one martianbishop. My dd2 was whoopsy once!
Great achievement seeing as the rest of us have only ever been shepherds!

"non faith schools and organisations blur the edges to be more inclusive while highlighting and maintaining the celebration of the basis principles we'd all do well to aspire too. "

blurr the edges>?

pick out bits we would liek to aspire to - what like being good, kind and other extremely generic stuff.

celebrate it any way you want to - but dont change the meaning. its not about an effin tree who was cold and chuffin lonley.

get pissed nay shitfaced.. fall on the floor in drunken stupor and proclaim " thank fuck that jesus guy was born today - another excuse to get shitfaced"

...but..know the meaning

dont change it

dont change the meaning becuase you absolutley would not condone the changing of anyone elses highly religeous day.

that is my point.

equity - equity is my point

any other religeon would go all george bush on yer arse if you tried changing bits of it "to be more inclusive becuase its in the psirit of things"

Heathcliffscathy · 24/11/2006 00:03

custy it is made up though innit?

jesus of nazareth was not born on december 25th.

so a bit of old fir tree nonsense is ok....as long as they do something about the sacred winter solstice (the original festival) and about jesus' birth too????

Tortington · 24/11/2006 00:36

tiz the universal chosen christian day to celebrate his birth in absnce of mary producing birth certificate.

so my argument remains

BTW completely agree about pagan beliefs too - equity equity - now if there was a magic effin rock or sommat special to pagans and it was changed to a fluffy fir tree - i think they too would be mightily pissed off.
