He is bilingual - no scrap that, he is bi-half-lingual Norwegian / English.
To be honest, he speaks, and Writes neither Language very well.
He is Reading age 12 (back in October) and he enjoys Reading. But he prefers books for his age Group With a more simplistic Language. So, the Hobbit, for example, is out. Similarly old classics such as The Railway Children, Tom Sawyer, etc.
He has an amazing imagination, and keen on writing stories. His grammar is not good, and punctuation really bad. He will put Capital letters in randomly (much like my Laptop seem to do and I dont know how to stop it). He struggles With speach marks, for example.
He gets confused by verbal reasoning.
He sees a tutor once a week, and she has her work cut out for her. But what can I do? His teacher does not really mark his work, she used to teach infant Levels, and is teaching Y5 this year. She may put corrections, but there is no time to explain to him where he has gone wrong. It is a big class of 32 kids, and no TA.
I think I need to spend 30 minutes With him every day on some extra Learning, but I am not English, and I am no teacher, and I cant explain all this to him!
He knows he is behind, he says he hates Languages, he has French and Italian in School, which he says is a Waste of time as he finds it confusing and he says there are too many apostrophies to deal With for him!
